Carousel Inn & Suites

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts acquired the property in 2015 to support the expansion of the Disneyland Resort. As part of its expansion, Disney will build a new parking structure and transit hub that will be located on the east side of Harbor Boulevard, called East Gateway. The site of the Carousel Inn & Suites will serve as a pedestrian connector to the resort. Today is the Carousel's last day of operations.

Wincome Group purchased the property in 1987 and revamped it from a motel into a boutique hotel. This renovation was in line with Disney’s expansion from a one-park/one-hotel property, and really marks the beginning of building Anaheim into the Resort Destination that it is today. The Carousel prized location provides a sweeping view of Disneyland and California Adventure, and several with uninterrupted views of Disney’s brilliant fireworks display.

Our Ode Continues. The name of the hotel was inspired by the King Arthur Carrousel ride that was an essential component of the original Disneyland design. The ride itself was inspired by the Griffith Park carousel, and Walt Disney wanted something similar for his new theme park: a carousel consisting of all jumpers. Because of the overwhelming popularity of the carousel's single white horse, since 1975 all horses have been painted white, and one remains at the Carousel Inn & Suites as an icon.

An ode to Carousel. In our final week, we'll be posting some pictures and memories. Please feel free to share your some of your own as we bid a fond farewell. Opening two years after Disneyland in 1957, the Carousel has seen several iterations through multiple owners over the years. Here's a picture from 1968.

Alas, the day has come. The Carousel Inn & Suites Hotel will close on October 17, 2016. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts acquired the property in 2015 to support the expansion of the Disneyland Resort. Guests with reservations at the Carousel Inn & Suites beyond October 17, 2016 are being contacted to relocate and upgrade them to a nearby hotel property. And if you love the Carousel as much as we do, please come for one last visit.
