Over the past 25 years, the average temperature in Aspen has risen 3 degrees, while snowfall has dwindled by 16% and population has risen by nearly 10 percent. Limited existing supplies and a lack of water storage is driving community interest in securing a safe and reliable water supply for the City of Aspen, while protecting instream flows in alignment with community's environmental values. Carollo is developing a 50-year integrated water resource plan to diversify Aspen’s... water sources, enhance supply reliability and sustainability, and mitigate vulnerabilities to water supply threats (like drought, wildfires, and avalanches). The plan will be influenced by the input from a robust months-long community engagement effort. A phased, adaptive implementation approach will allow Aspen to implement supply enhancements over time to reliably meet the evolving needs of the community. #waterresources #watermanagement #resilience

Most operators of water resource recovery facilities agree that achieving reliable and effective aeration control remains a key challenge. For the City of Boulder, however, leveraging big data and predictive analytics is proving to be a promising method for forecasting treatment performance. The City, Carollo, the Colorado School of Mines, and Baylor University recently developed this novel aeration control strategy as part of the The Water Research Foundation Leaders Innovation Forum for Technology (LIFT) Intelligent Water Systems Challenge. And the predictive programming code required to replicate the work at other water resource recovery facilities has recently been accepted for publication. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3jKem5e

Looking for something to watch this weekend? Brave Blue World is now streaming on Netflix. Narrated by Liam Neeson, the documentary features the Orange County Water District's Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS), which is the world's largest #water purification system of its kind. Carollo is providing #construction management services for the final expansion of the GWRS, which is a collaboration between OCWD and Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD). The $310 million project involves expanding GWRS treatment facilities, constructing new conveyance facilities at OCSD Plant 2 and rehabilitating an existing pipeline between OCSD Plant 2 and the GWRS. #braveblue #valuewater

Potable water reuse projects often use membrane bioreactors as part of the treatment train. MBRs offer significant footprint savings, are cost-effective, and produce high-quality effluent. However, membranes in MBRs are exposed to harsh conditions that can result in damage, which raises concerns about pathogen reduction. Tomorrow's webcast will focus on The Water Research Foundation project 4997 -- Validation Protocols for Membrane Bioreactors and Ozone/Biologically Activated Carbon. This project provides fundamental guidance that will assist regulators in assigning pathogen reduction credits for MBRs. Register here: https://bit.ly/30FIG9D
