Carmel Youth Center 08.02.2021

We are back and what an AMAZING day it was. Today the CYC hit the trails in Pebble Beach. With masks on and scavenger hunts in hand, we trailed from Bird Rock through Indian Village in the beautiful Del Monte Forrest. And because these kids are the fastest walkers ever, we even had time to play in the sand at Seal Beach. Thank you to everyone who donated, bought a golf ball, cheered us on with kind messages of hope. It is our community who allowed for today to happen and it is the best gift we could imagine. Tomorrow we will be at Carmel Mission Trail! Register at carmelyouth.org/registration

Dear Parents, At this time the Carmel Youth Center is closing its doors as of Monday, March 16th until further notice. We apologize for the inconvenience for all of our families, but for the safety of our youth and staff we believe it is best to take a precautionary approach to the COVID-19 virus. Every Friday we will be reevaluating this decision and will inform you as soon as possible when anything changes. Membership charges on April 15th for the month of April and all fu...ture charges will be postponed until further notice. All Parents Night Out purchases for Tuesdays event will be refunded. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation. If you are financially able and wish to not be refunded but in exchange have your purchases be a tax deductible donation to help us during these hardships, we greatly appreciate your generosity. We did so many activities with legos at the CYC. What has been your Quarantine go-to activity to keep the kiddos busy and have a break from screens?

As I (Miss Jess) was working in our communities to see where the CYC may he of help, the majority of the need was food... Organizations across the county had needs they could not get filled. So I went to the board to see how the CYC can help with these ever growing needs & within a days found ourselves given an anonymous DONATION OF 900 CASES of food for us to distribute to these nonprofits and schools in need! Carmel Youth Center(cyc) has made a promise to itself & the comm...unity to do one service project with our youth members every month through its #LEAD program in 2020. Our doors may be closed to the children, but our board felt there was no better time for us to come together & find ways to continue serving our community. But never did we imagine that April's project would end up being a partnership that feeds 1,000 FAMILIES! . Majority of these foods are perishable, refrigerated or frozen, so yesterday a group of CYC, All-In Monterey, & MPUSD volunteers unloaded and organized the 900 cases into our freezer/fridge truck so we can have a few days to distribute! Even with a great discount from thermo king, this project will still cost the CYC $1500 to complete... And we are so grateful that the Micek family was able to sponsor these efforts! With no income in sight for months these times are worrisome, but it does not mean stop serving. . I found myself reading this quote daily by Mother Theresa We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop. . I could not be more over joyed by our abilities this week, but it is truly just a drop in the ocean of what our community needs at this time. We are going to continue our efforts to serve as we all navigate this new territory. With a partnership with the community group All In Monterey County and the help of MPUSD as our staging location, we will be distributing over 1000 cases of food to organizations in ALL of Monterey county so they can continue their efforts in serving. Post to come with who we are helping and how YOU can support their efforts too! (Disclaimer: we all had on proper safety gear and stayed within safety guidelines. This picture was taken after all left and with All In Monterey Coordinator who is in my quarantine circle)

Are you baking at home with the kids to bypass time? Have them test out their cookie skills and see the science behind baking! At the CYC we give kids ‘curve balls’ when baking - we have no butter, now what? - we have only one egg, now what? Let them do the research on alternatives, and test it out!
