The shoulder season is one of the most exciting times to be a cook. For these brief but potent weeks, it's all happening at our market. We have the last of the tomatoes piled high next to the corns, but we can feel the cooler autumn air in the evenings. We have seasons first persimmons and pomegranates, and winter variety of squash rolling in. The abundance is dizzying. Here are some of our bounty this week! & : Winter squashes are here - Kabocha, pumpkin...s, banana squash, sugar pie squash, oh the choices. Cantaloupe - taste the season's peak cantaloupe in your fruit bowl while you can. Local grapes are abundant, so exciting! Apples - they get sweeter every week. Sweet and ripe Fuyu persimmons are best eaten while still firm and fresh (as opposed to baked/cooked like other varieties). The pomegranate season is in full effect, my friends. These gorgeous ruby jewels are juicy, sweet with a tinge of sourness that is irresistible. Berry dressing made with @gaytanfamilyfarm's blueberry, raspberry, and strawberries. Great on toast and pancakes. Late Season Tomatoes - Get your tomatoes fix in because them off-season tomatoes are a culinary sin. Carrots Kale String Beans Zucchini Radishes Turnips Corns Eggplants Asian Pears and so much more. : This week, we have House of Bao (Asian Street Food), Masala Cottage (Indian), and Thai Style (Thai.) : Black Cod (Local) Opah (Local) Kampachi, aka Yellowtail (La Paz, MEX) Diver Scallops (USA) Opakapaka (MEX) Halibut (AK) and more! ! An individaul that goes by the name of One Clean Beach (@onecleanbeach on Instagram) has been dedicating her own time cleaning the beaches here in Carlsbad so much that she can create this beautiful plastic art with beach toys collected. How inspirational is this? Carlsbad features an incredible seven miles of spectacular Pacific Ocean coastline, with beaches perfect for surfing, fishing, sunbathing, and more. Let's help to keep them clean!

Twenty-six years ago, a couple dozen local and regional farmers and a handful of crafters and food purveyors set up shop in the parking lot on Roosevelt Street between Carlsbad Village Drive and Grand Avenue. So began the legacy of the Carlsbad Farmers’ Market. The year was 1994, and the Carlsbad Village Business Association finally saw their dream come to fruition after months of public meetings, council meetings, and more. Jump to October 2020, and the market, now the S...tate Street Farmers’ Market, is still going strong despite the most challenging year in its history. It has been nearly seven years since the market moved to State Street to help bring more foot traffic to the Village to benefit the businesses downtown. No one knew that after years of steady growth, finally stretching its footprint to accommodate nearly 60 produce and specialty food vendors, that it would have such restrictive conditions placed upon it due to an unprecedented health pandemic. The Carlsbad Village Association cannot thank its vendors enough for their patience during this difficult time. We also cannot express its gratitude to the loyal shoppers who return week after week who have been so gracious and supportive from the start. Please join us this afternoon, , , , to help us celebrate the State Street Farmers' Market in Carlsbad Village's 26th birthday with fun giveaways and a chance to pick up some coveted Market Money. As always, please wear a face cover at all times at the market to keep our community safe. Tag your crew and share this post, looking forward to seeing you all! ' Celebrating 26 years downtown!
