We are proponents of wearing masks and require it at this time in our practice of both patients and ourselves. Whether it is to work, school or social activities, we can all fall prey to a new hygiene problem being referred to as Mask Mouth. Symptoms of ‘mask mouth’ include: Halitosis (a.k.a. bad breath) Tooth decay and cavities Gum inflammation (puffy gums, gingivitis, etc.) Wearing a mask can affect dental health by creating a dry and acidic mouth environment where ...germs can flourish. Here are some tips for preventing mask mouth: 1. STAY HYDRATED Hydration is so important to good oral health drink water! 2. BRUSH REGULARLY Brush a minimum of two times a day. 3. DON’T FORGET ABOUT YOUR TONGUE The absolute best fix for mask mouth is the use of a tongue cleaner morning and night, along with a mouth rinse designed to treat halitosis and not just cover it up. 4. FLOSS It is more important than ever! 5. SEE YOUR HYGIENEST Keep those regular dental cleaning appointments every six months! See more
