It’s time again for Nike’s annual wellness exam. Many subtle changes can occur in as little as one year, so it is important to have a thorough nose to tail exam by one of our veterinarians. An exam in your pet’s mouth can help to reveal broken or chipped teeth, dental disease, or other changes. The doctor will also look at your pet’s gums to ensure that they are a healthy pink color. This tells your doctor that your pet has good oxygen flow in its body.... The eyes are examined to pick up changes such as cloudiness, dryness, or unusual redness. Your veterinarian will also examine the eyelids because irregularities including swelling, redness, or lumps can directly impact the eye. Sometimes an ear infection can go unnoticed, so our doctors will check the ears during your visit. Your animal companion receives a good pat down and rub while the doctor palpates limbs and the abdomen checking for any unusual lumps. Sometimes the doctor can detect if the lymph nodes are enlarged. This can be a clue that your pet may have an underlying infection that needs attention. A stethoscope can detect irregularities to the heart and lungs. Examination of the hair coat and skin can help the doctor determine if there might be underlying internal issues, a skin infection, any allergies, or the presence of external parasites like fleas and ticks. We recommend checking your pet’s stool yearly. Most parasites are only seen under a microscope, so we do special testing procedures to make sure there are no problems. Remember, sometimes internal parasites like worms and microscopic critters like giardia can be transmitted from pets to their human family members. Although we can collect a sample during your visit, your pet will be much happier if you remember to bring in a fresh stool sample for your exam. Finally, make a list of any questions you might have for our doctors. They will be happy to answer them and to help educate you on the best way to care for your fur baby.

VET TECH APPRECIATION WEEK!! We would like to take the time to introduce you to our veterinary technician assistants & Registered Veterinary Technicians. We know with COVID- it has made it hard to have face to face interactions with our wonderful clients. (First picture)... Kasey, on the left, started with us last year and immediately embraced the Courtyard family! With her vast experience in an emergency clinic she is quick on her feet and is wonderful in a stressful situation! When she’s not saving lives she is performing her ukulele for her friends and family! On the right is Amanda, who back in 2017 made us one lucky clinic! She is always the first to help her fellow coworkers and is never afraid of the task in front of her! The work place is not the only environment that she takes head on, in her spare time she was a competitive power lifter! #girlpower (Second picture) Lastly we have our Lead Registered Veterinary Technician Cori! She started with us back in 2015 and has helped our clinic run smoothly and efficiently since day one! Cori has a passion for all senior dogs, she even has even taken several into her home and gives all her love to each and every one! Fun fact about Cori is she is a master at BBQing!
