We cannot imagine life today without gift cards, but do you know when gift cards were invented? Technically American Express introduced gift cheques in 1988. However, Neiman Marcus was the first to sell plastic gift cards in 1994, but didn't advertise and display them. It was Blockbuster who displayed plastic gift card in its stores for the first time. The next big gift card seller was Starbucks, who in 2001 introduced reloadable gift cards. Today gift card business is estimated to be over $100 billion and rest is history!!!
