Monterey Park Manta Rays 21.11.2020

After 4 long and hot days in La Mirada, California, the 2016 June Age Group Invitational is over. We had some fantastic swims this weekend. Over 70 teams (we only had 20 swimmers out of the 1400 entered) were set to compete at the meet, and we were able to finish up in 24th place. On the girls side, we were 29th. On the boys side, we came in at 19th. Entered in 72 individual events, we walked away from the meet with 66 best times. We entered 9 relays, but ended up scratching ...a couple because of a horrendous timeline. We were able to drop loads of time in all 7 of the other relays. Here are some highlight swims from the weekend. Our 13-14 boys 200 Free relay was able to capture a Top 3 finish. Great job Dalton Nguyen, Nathan Fong, Raymond Lee, and Justin To! Jezabel Aguilar was our highest individual point scorer with a whopping 63.5 points. She finished in the Top 8 for four events and finished in the Top 16 for the other two. Although there were many other great swims this weekend, the last major highlight was in the 15 & Over Girls 100 Breaststroke. After chasing a Sectional cut for about one year, Carmen Ung blew right by the 1:18 mark to to achieve her goal, going 1:17.83! This is the first Sectional cut for anyone on the team in about two years. Way to go this weekend! Although it was exhausting, swimming fast definitely helps make the meet more enjoyable. Back to training today, so we can keep our momentum rolling into Metro Championships and Summer Junior Olympics!
