Located right across The Cal Student Store, Pinky And Reds has been a favorite comfort food spot for many Cal students. The lovely owner, Pinky Winchester, was recently diagnosed with colon cancer. To me, Rally Committee is more than just a club, it's a family. Although I entered Cal without any idea of the rich history, spirit, and culture behind this university, I would never have thought my experience with Rally Comm would have led to me teaching a DeCal on UC Berkeley... from past to present. From the wide variety of jobs they do on gamedays to their passionate representation of the Spirit of California wherever they go, I've never met a happier group of students who not only engage with our excellent academics, but also Cal's strong sense of school pride. Virtual or in-person, we are still Golden Bears who continue expanding what it means to be at the #1 public university in the world. Here's a word from our Chair Maria Martinez on what Rally Committee have in store: "This fall semester we’ve worked hard to put on virtual birthday parties (Happy 79th, Oski!), general spirit events, and rallies, with a few more to come - so look out for those! Now that we have a football schedule, we’re looking forward to virtual watch parties and helping bring Cal Spirit right to fans’ living rooms this season." See more

This winter, we’re staying warm and happy in our Colosseum Athletics Spock Hoodie Here’s a little more on our student model, Preethy, and her remote semester: I know this semester is far from normal. A remote semester amidst a global pandemic brings its own set of unique problems. To be honest, I started off the semester very disappointed. Sitting in front of my laptop all day is not the vision I had for what were supposed to be "the best four years of my life." However..., I soon learned this mentality was not going to get me anywhere. While many things are different this semester, the love and support I feel from my Cal community have not wavered. Additionally, I have the privilege to be attending one of the best universities in the world and am taking classes that genuinely excite and challenge me. All in all, I still have a lot to be thankful for. That doesn't mean I still don't get into my little slumps here and there. But in those moments, I just take a moment away from the screen and try to remember all the good that still exists in my life. See more

Bringing out our favorite fall sweatshirts like this cropped one from Champion Here’s a little more on our student model, Preethy: My name is Preethy Abraham (she/her/hers) and I am a third-year student studying Molecular and Cellular Biology. I am originally from Torrance, CA. Even with a remote semester, I am happy to be back in Berkeley. I currently work at a COVID-19 testing kiosk, Curative, helping provide free oral-tests for the community. I am also an undergraduat...e research assistant at the UC Berkeley Psychophysiology Lab, working to further understand the caregiver burden. As an aspiring medical student, I am also involved in health non-profits such as Health4theWorld and am the Health Worker for my sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. UC Berkeley has given me a plethora of opportunities to challenge me both inside the classroom and out. Thanks to Cal, I have found the right communities to both support and push me towards success. Midterms made comfortable with the Colosseum Athletics M Fortess Hoodie Our student model Wesley shares more on his remote learning experience and ways to take care of ourselves during these times Remote learning is not the easiest thing to get the hang of, but it's important to take care of ourselves as we adjust to this new normal. I may not be attending meetings in Eshleman Hall currently, but I am still continuing to work with so many other passionate students in ...the ASUC to ensure students' voices are being heard. Mental health is just as important as physical health during these times and deserves to be addressed in a way that meets your needs. It can be as casual as establishing a group of friends to check in with occasionally or booking a session with a counselor at CAPS. Although it may not appear while we are physically apart, there is still a community who cares about you and will do the best it can to help you succeed. It's okay to not be okay, just know that there are resources to help you through whatever you are going through. While I look forward to seeing you all in person one day, I can give you a Go Bears and all the virtual hugs possible in the meantime." See more

The Men’s Doubleknit Poly Quarterzip is what we’re wearing to stay warm this fall Learn a little bit more about our student model, @branfromtheblock: My name is Brandon Harden (he/him/his) and I am a second-year studying political science and legal studies. I am originally from a small town near Yosemite National Park in California. I am glad to be back on campus this semester - even with remote learning - while I work as a Resident Assistant in the dorms. On-campus I am ...typically involved in several clubs and organizations but this semester I am focusing mostly on preparing for law school, so I am dedicating most of my extracurricular time to Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. Off-campus I work for a public health organization doing policy consulting and I serve on the executive board for an education non-profit. I also mentor a dozen high school students from around California. Growing up in such a small town has inspired most of the work I do now and plan to do in the future. Communities like where I am from are often left out of policy considerations and left to fend for themselves. I am particularly passionate about policy solutions to food deserts - something my community struggles with - and education policy reform. See more

As I eventually move onto my classes in Psychology and Social Welfare, I am using this semester to learn how to take a deeper look at the education system and various ways to improve it through the Education minor. While I may be in a virtual ...setting along with all of my classmates, that just gives all the more tools and resources available to discover ways that could make education an equitable experience for all students. Some may think of multiple-choice tests and memorization when it comes to learning, but I see a deeper understanding of what the world around us means and how we interact with it. Whether it's learning about groundbreaking science inside the classroom or growing as a leader in my personal life, I can tell I have so much more to learn from UC Berkeley. I'm so privileged to be where I am now receiving a quality education at Cal and I truly hope to pass on that experience for future generations of students both during and after my time here." See more
