Innovations that benefit low-income students and help them graduate more quickly have been a silver lining of the pandemic. Shonda Goward, the director the Student Center for Academic Advising (SCAA) at Cal State East Bay, wrote a guest commentary for EdSource on why we should keep and expand some of these practices that the pandemic made necessary.
Cal State East Bay is celebrating women's history month with keynote events from author Robin DiAngelo (March 18) and medical ethicist Harriet Washington (March 25). Both speakers are part of the university’s Cultural Awareness Months, which provide the Cal State East Bay community with opportunities to hear and learn from keynote speakers representing underrepresented, marginalized, and underserved communities.
Two Cal State East Bay donors are leading the way for the university to raise the remaining $6.1 million needed to build a $30 million Applied Sciences Center. They are offering a $3 million dollar-for-dollar match for gifts that support completing the campaign for the new building.

Earlier this week, the Cal State East Bay community was saddened to hear about the passing of alumnus Joe Morgan (B.S. Physical Education, ‘90). Fulfilling a promise to his mother, Morgan earned his degree at the age of 47 after his Hall of Fame career in Major League Baseball ended. After graduation, Morgan continued to support the university through an endowed scholarship, which made a huge impact on approximately 100 kinesiology students over the years. He’s also been named a Distinguished Alumni and was awarded an honorary doctorate in 2008.
