If you have ever experienced an Ocular Migraine you would agree that you thought you were going to lose your vision. This sudden visual disturbance occurs unexpectedly and almost always is associated with a trigger. Common triggers like caffeine, sulfates in wine, monthly menstrual cycles, consumption of aged cheeses or smoke meats, lack of sleep, MSG, and artificial sweeteners are only some of the possible causes on why these brief episodic visual disturbances occur. These t...riggers cause blood vessels in the back of the brain responsible for vision to temporarily spasm. If you get these occurrences, it’s very important for you document when they occur alongside with any association to the triggers noted above. This method makes it very easy for you to understand your trigger and to avoid them to prevent future occurences. With schools closing throughout Los Angeles County and an increasing number of parents working from home to stop the spread of coronavirus, families are sure to be grappling with how to handle screen time. Schools are providing distance learning aligned with their curriculum through zoom sessions and increasing screen time for children. Our eyes are definitely under a new set of demands and we must remember to incorporate a simple rule, 20-20-20. The 20-20-20 Rule is simple, for every 20 minutes of computer/up close work, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This technique helps relax our focusing system and helps reduce eye strain caused by looking at digital screens for too long.

Have your eyes been tearing lately?? Join us live tonight on the USArmenia Television Network @7:00pm with Dr Harout Khanjian and Dr Atanes Atanesyan as we talk about tearing and the possible causes. Most commonly tearing results from allergies, dry eye, foreign body, misdirected eyelash growth, overproduction of tears by the lacrimal gland, and even a blockage in the drainage. The only way to find out is by seeing your eye doctor. Each possibility can be ruled out with in office testing and the appropriate treatment can be administered.
