A bill changing sex-offender registration requirements recently signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom has been widely misunderstood by critics, said Carol Beecroft, CEO of the Women's Center - High Desert, Inc. in Ridgecrest. California's Rape Crisis Centers help to reduce stress for individuals and communities by contextualizing coverage and debunking myths and, at times, educating the public by correcting and dispelling misinformation. The more RCCs engage and inform media, ...sex ed, and spaces where educational materials are absorbed, the better educated the populace, and the more of a shared responsibility for preventing sexual violence. #SB145 #BoldMoves Kern Valley Sun https://kernvalleysun.com/center-says-sex-offender-bill-mi/

How was NSAC 2020: #BoldMoves? The following statements were captured by BAWAR in response to opening plenaries from Farah Tanis and sujatha baliga, and a panel asking, What is Your Survivors' Agenda?: "Voices of Black women are visible and prominent' has really stuck in my head, especially as I continue to find my voice in this work and joining the movement in making those bold moves."--Khyra, Lead SEM Advocate ... "I was really moved when Farah Tanis said, 'How we grieve now is how we will relearn the world' and I'm inspired to bring that intention to my daily work- existing right now is hard but it's so important to be creative and intentional, especially when things are hard."--Lorraine, Campus Advocacy Coordinator "Excelente me inspiro el testimonio de Sujatha. CONDUCTAS, ESTRUCTURAS, PENSAMIENTOS Y CORAZON"--Matty, Consejera Principal del Programa Latinx "sujatha baliga was a revelation, her invitation to 'stop calling people by the behavior we want them to stop doing' will be transformative for BAWAR's language. People who rape/have used sexual violence vs. 'rapists' or 'perpetrators'. Wow!"-- Leah, Executive Director Go to NationalSexualAssaultConference.org to view the recordings from the entire National Sexual Assault Conference! https://mailchi.mp/8dde1e27acc0/september-newsletter NationalSexualAssaultConference.org Bold Moves

Regrettably, there's been a great deal of misinformation spread around #SB145 that has since been signed by California Governor Newsom. Simply put, Sen. Scott Wiener's legislation eliminates an inequality in sex offender registration. For more info, go to: https://linktr.ee/sb145
