The Hearst Lecture Series is excited to welcome Alma Du Solier of Hood Design Studio on Wednesday, February 24 at 5 pm PST. Alma Du Solier is a Mexican-American landscape architect and the Studio Director at Hood Design Studio, an award-winning cultural practice based in Oakland, CA, which merges landscape architecture, public art, and urban design. She is also a registered architect in her native country of Mexico. Alma’s design approach builds on her dual design background and her interest on the meaningful integration of design with site and culture. The Cloeys, a band formed by Mariella Delfino (vocals), Remy Mitchell (guitar), Josh Hampshire (bass guitar), Cameron Lilly (keyboard) and Boden Cunningham (drums), have recently released the single Easy. Mariella and Remy are 4th year students who met when they first enrolled in Landscape Architecture. Congratulations to The Cloeys! @thecloeys

Students Claire Dosen, Michael Lozano and Tobin Hook in the Student Leadership in Green Infrastructure club worked to design, permit and install a rain garden on Cal Poly campus over the past year and a half. With the help from student volunteers, they installed the project in October 2020 over a number of workdays. We are excited to see how the garden performs in the coming months!

This academic year looks different than past years, but we are excited to begin the Fall 2020 quarter face to face and virtually with all of you!

July’s project is titled Jia: Bringing Landscape Architecture to Webtoons, and it uses webtoon as a medium to inform younger audiences about the growing issues in Landscape Architecture, and inspire them to take action. Congratulations to Silvia Viola (class of 2019) for an Honorable Mention at CELA 2020 Student Awards! Her project Memorabilia addresses the need to revitalize an industrial area of Trento Nord (northern Italy) and engage in the site by experiencing its previous historic narratives - geological, cultural and industrial. #calpolylandscapearchitecture

Join us for "2020 Vision", the final presentation of Senior Studios in Landscape Architecture. Twenty-six students will be showcasing a variety of individual design and research projects on Friday March 13th 5pm - 8pm at the Veteran's Hall (801 Grand Av. SLO).

Students in the 2020 senior class of Cal Poly Landscape Architecture are working diligently on their senior capstone projects, which will be showcased on Friday, March 13th. They are currently raising funds to be put towards a venue for the show, catering for those that attend, and student production costs. Impact: The Visual Communication of Information, is an exhibit that focuses on the diversity of visual communication created by students, faculty and staff across the university. Landscape Architecture Department Head, Omar Faruque, was honored by his alma mater, Texas A&M University, as a 2019 distinguished alumnus for his innovative design and planning, his book Graphic Communication as a Design Tool that documents his pioneering research on creative exploration for design, and his academic leadership at Cal Poly. Congratulations to Elias Armenta (Class of 2018)! His design for 'Rosary Garden', a 5,500 square foot garden at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Merced, CA, was showcased in 209 Magazine (Issue 34).

Congratulations to Mr. Kevin Conger - President and Founding Partner of CMG Landscape Architecture and 1988 graduate of our program - on being named the 2019 Honored Alumnus of the College of Architecture & Environmental Design. The Honored Alumni Award is the highest honor bestowed upon Cal Poly alumni by the University’s Alumni Association. Students and faculty were able to celebrate with Kevin today with a pre-award reception. Congratulations, Kevin!
