Happy CSA Day! We’re celebrating #CSADay today, February 23rd. CAFF and CSA farmers across the country invite you to join in for a successful season. Today is ...the most popular day of the year to sign up for a CSA as farmers are making investments in seeds, equipment, and the labor needed to grow for their CSA. Feed your family, support your farmer! Visit www.LocalHarvest.org to find a CSA near you. In Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), consumers invest in a farm at the season’s start in exchange for a weekly share of produce. Many welcome CalFresh.

In 2 weeks sustainable food producers and institutional food buyers (think schools and hospital cafeterias) across California will gather at the Good Food Showcase to network and find ways to incorporate more CA grown food into meals prepared every day. Big congrats to Dave Runsten, our steadfast Policy Director, for receiving EcoFarm's prestigious "Sustie" award, honoring long-time leaders of ecologically sust...ainable agriculture. These Stewards of Sustainable Agriculture have demonstrated significant contributions to the well-being of agriculture and the planet and Dave embodies this whole-heartedly. Since the 1990s, Dave has given voice to thousands of family farmers and rural communities across California, attending meeting after meeting, digging through legislation and walking the halls of Sacramento so that those in the field can instead focus on the health of their soil, crops and the neighbors they feed. It's because of people like Dave that California leads the way in our fight against climate change, bringing to the attention of our legislature the environmentally sound farming practices of our members. And it's because of Dave that even in a time of rampant consolidation that small-scale family farmers have a say in how policies get crafted. Dave's is a legacy worth celebrating but also worth carrying forward into the future. We hope that new generations of policy champions will take notes, learn from Dave's perseverance, and continue to ensure social justice, ecological sustainability and a voice for our family farms.
