"The levees that make up #CaWater distribution system in the Delta are not engineered to withstand major earthquakes. There is a high probability of a major earthquake within the next 25 years which could cause catastrophic levee failure, which would result in seawater inundation, interrupting fresh-water deliveries to more than 27 million people. COVID-19 demonstrates that unexpected disasters happen. In a catastrophic levee failure, who stands to be hurt the most? Not the affluent, as we have seen in this COVID-19 crisis; they have second homes, alternative sources of food and access to health care. It would hurt poor, working class and middle-class people the worst." - CalMatters https://calmatters.org//a-social-justice-perspective-of-t/
We will be part of the solution. We will promote policies and programs that reflect principles of diversity, equity and inclusion, and will work with stakeholders to identify areas of improvement." Nearly 60 California groups representing construction, labor, business and local governments signed a letter urging Congressional leaders to include infrastructure investment in the next stimulus package to accelerate our economic recovery and get Californians back to work. A major infrastructure spending package would inject trillions of dollars into our flailing economy, help stop project cuts resulting from declining state and local transportation budgets and put milli...ons of Americans and Californians to work all while helping repair and fix long-neglected infrastructure that is crumbling and failing. #RebuildingCa #InfrastructureNow READ THE LETTER: https://www.rebuildca.org/letter-california-leaders-urge-c/ TAKE ACTION: www.FixCaRoads.com
The collapse of two Michigan dams following heavy rainfall has triggered concerns over how precarious dam infrastructure in the U.S. is inadequate to handle severe weather. The 91,000 dams in the U.S. earned a D for safety in a 2017 report from the American Society of Civil Engineers. The ASCE estimated the cost of fixing up the dams whose failure would threaten lives at roughly $45 billion, and the cost of fixing all aging dams at over $64 billion: https://www.cnbc.com//more-dams-will-collapse-as-aging-inf. #InfrastructureNow

"California voters two years ago emphatically endorsed a plan to speed highway and transportation projects when they supported at the ballot box a package of gas taxes and vehicles fees. But the cororonavirus outbreak looks likely to jeopardize those plans... The irony of the slowdown is that it helps create unusually favorable circumstances for road improvement and repair. Less traffic means less disruption, and workers need the work.." https://www.sacbee.com//transportati/article242235946.html
Because of the reduced traffic from COVID-19, some construction crews are shifting work schedules to daytime when it's brighter, safer and more efficient to get infrastructure work done. #RebuildingCA https://www.kcra.com//road-construction-daytime-c/32207933
Infrastructure has always been integral to California's quality of life & economy. Take a trip down memory lane - fascinating video shot in San Francisco four days before the 1906 earthquake and totally remastered: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VO_1AdYRGW8&feature=youtu.be h/t California Sun

Governor Gavin Newsom has issued renewed guidance instructing that the state’s construction sites can remain open for the time being as long as social distancing guidelines are being followed. We’re not New York ... and we’re going to do everything we can to bend our curve, adding, We're not naive about the magnitude of our challenge ahead of us. But currently, I'm satisfied with those state directives." #RebuildingCA (cc Caltrans HQ) https://archinect.com//california-allows-state-s-construct
