BVA 15-MIGUEL "Volleyball is a very mental game. My team has worked so hard over the past month , they have improved individually and gotten a better understanding of game play. Our goal was to not be perfect but when controlling , we wanted to be dominant with putting the ball away. We had great moments and battled with some great rallies. Unfortunately, we struggled a lot with ball control in serve receive and it complicated the result for us. I am extremely grateful for my team. It hurts to see them bummed when things don’t go as expected. I strive for their success and seeing them happy is my ultimate joy. They are my motivation and I hope I can continue to help with their development and love for the game." -Coach Miguel

***UPDATE BVA 15-Kevin Mandatory 2 *** Today was an incredible day of growth and learning as BVA 15-Kevin won their pool in Mandatory 2. Holding our opponent to single digits in two sets played, the team had to come back in the last match, winning in a three-set thriller that saw our opponent yell in the faces of our team as the last set continued. I totally get it though. This team plays with such a neutral tone that it frustrates people as it looks like nothing ever gets to... us. We started to give up points late and the other team thought by trying to yell and scream in our players faces at the net that we would be intimidated. Not a chance. We simply played, with the effort and grace that has obviously been a part of this team before they stepped on the court here at BVA. They are such great kids and they act like it at all times. What we learned today is that we can play with just about anybody as we added running a one and saw a serve and pass consistency we had been looking for, for a long time. I have to say, among the many things I have come to love about this team and the players as individuals is the absolute respect and attitude they bring to the game of volleyball every single day. Great job today, this was awesome.

BVA 15-Kevin: As we prepared for the season, we had marked this particular Sunday as the first day we would come at a competition with the mind set that we were fully prepared and we were coming for results. You see, up until then, we needed to development a team cohesiveness and philosophy centered around knowing who we are as a team and what we could reasonably expect our strengths and weaknesses to be. To say the least as of now, it was a great day.... Although we lost our first match in a three-set thriller, eventually falling 13-15 in the 3rd, we had the clarity of mind to recognize WHY we lost. It was the continuation of some old habits born from a place of being a sweet bunch of people where they didn't want to bump into each other or "step on people's toes." However, after the loss and a prolonged discussion of what it meant to compete and that being a competitor didn't take away from them being awesome kids, everything changed. Matches two and three saw this team slide into its true identity while showing everyone around that they could compete, win, and not retaliate while still being the same people. Retaliate? Yes. During one of our matches, the other team was being a little rude, mocking the players and myself, and the team didnt like it. And while they talked about responding in kind, they chose the high road, ignoring anything coming from the other side and chose to simply play volleyball with integrity and maturity, ultimately taking home the two-set victory. It turned out to be an amazing example and a true testament to what these players believe. The maturity level of this team in terms of being fantastic human beings is off the charts and all of the parents should be proud of the way they handled this situation, I know I am. As it ends up, the loss in that first match of the day cost a pool championship, but in the end, it was what was revealed in regards to what the true characters are of the players on this team that defined our day. A day of winning in all aspects of the sport. Well done.

Kevin's Coaching Corner: Yesterday was a great motivator for me as I watched the team grow into a more cohesive unit. It was exactly what we needed in order to show ourselves that we can learn, adapt, adjust, and execute. We knew where to go in each rotation and our defense was outstanding. We still need a little work on serving and passing (who doesn't), but now we are at the point where we can start working on our offense. Remember, we have a team that has a vast range in ...experience and that gap is starting to close. We proved that even smaller middles can block balls and that we can put balls away on the left. The great thing now is that we can focus on the entire game now that we know serve receive, offense, free ball, and defensive formations. Let the skill teaching continue! We are getting to play a lot of volleyball and it is my belief that by February, we will be light years ahead of where we are now. Lastly, this is such a great bunch of girls. They get after it every single day in practice and that showed this weekend as we often won long rallies. This is going to be a great year.

BVA 15-Miguel - Qualifier #2: "Rough day. I tell my team how the score board doesn't reflect the talent on this team. Score boards can be exaggerated and don't replay the efforts only display the outcome of the final touch. Our focus is always look at the positive of the plays and how to improve on the next one. The tournament was full of key moments where the girls played solid volleyball and had great rallies. Communication and confidence were our struggles today. It was r...eally nice to have one of the officials come over after our last game and tell the girls how great of a team they are and asked to communicate more because they are a fun team to watch and thought that was the only downside. We have had some unfortunate injuries , our setter and captain suffered a bad ankle injury today so we will have to adjust without both our team captains. We've already had to adjust with loosing one captain to an injury last week. I care more about the girls health than anything else. The girls have worked hard to prepare. Every girl contributes and the support is there from Coach , Parents and team mates, I won't ever give up on this team I Believe I have a team that can compete. My teams 3 rules on the court are to Have fun, Stay low and be Aggressive. We will continue to improve. We are the Dark horse waiting for our moment! BVA 16 - Pese - Qualifier #1: "So proud of these girls. They worked so hard in getting used to each other in such a short time. Dominated 1st 2 matches, winning every set by double digits. Girls took great pride in beating crosstown rival ProPlay. Had a tough match in the final match, down by 9 points in the 1st set, but fought back hard to win 25-23. They were spent emotionally on that comeback that we lost 2nd set to force a 3rd set. Mistakes down the stretch, giving up 4 ...of the last 5 point on unforced errors, cost the final set losing 13-15. It is my job as a coach to make sure this does not happen again. Can’t wait to get back to the gym on Tuesday to continue our work. Love coaching these girls and see the growth. Thank you family for all the support." ~Coach Pese #BVA #BVAFamily #BVAStrong #BVAPride #VolleyballGoals #Sisterhood #GirlPower #Friendship #TeamWork #Grit #Compete #Purpose #Grow #Mandatory1 #16s See more

BVA 18-1 A/K - Qualifier #1: "Proud of these girls.... they powered through what I would call the most bizarre way to play volleyball with all the Covid Protocols... None the less these girls made the best out of it and while struggling with passing in their first match they continued to improve and make adjustments throughout the day.... We went 1-2 holding our Seed... But what impressed me the most about these girls is that they started to form that much needed team chemis...try and bond and improved each game.... while we should have gone 2-1 in pool play and the girls know that.... we also know we have a lot to work on as a Team..... Proud of You Girls!!!!" ~Coach Adrianne & Coach Kilisi #BVA #BVAFamily #BVAStrong #BVAPride #VolleyballGoals #Sisterhood #GirlPower #Friendship #TeamWork #Grit #Compete #Purpose #Grow #Qualifier1 #18s
