Happy Manic Monday BKB Friends! What's your best "Parts Store Story".. I'll share my embarrassing one from when I worked at Advance Auto at 17 in South Carolina. I prided myself on taking the extra time to ask all the questions to try to ensure I was giving the right parts.. I had very few "returns" outside of the customer misdiagnosing.. ... But, I got got one night... and in my defense it was a Sunday I was on a double...I had been at the store since 0830(likely Hungover).. it was like 2058(8:58pm).. and THE call comes in.. here I'm trying to count my drawer, sweep the floors, front and face the racks.. I was ready to go..I had school the next day...lol So, the Gentleman is all worked up.. "Hey man, I'm in a pinch... my only car just blew the radiator.." I look down at my watch and think...well we close in 2 mins you ain't making it... but I'll try to at least get you a price and availability.. So I reply something like "oh man, I hate to hear that... let's see if you can get you a price and availability and go from there" He replies "alright, but I really need it tonight and it's a hard one to find.." this should have been the RED FLAG I'm thinking oh challenge accepted.. we were a "hub store" meaning we normally stocked what the others didn't... thus the reason I could NORMALLY find your parts.. So I ask.. "shoot me the year, make model of what you need" I already knew not to ask what you were working on.. at this point I'd already swapped a 89 4.3/700r4 into an 86 S-10 that was a 2.8 3 peddle rig and was familiar with how FrankenCars work.. So he fires it off.. "it's a 68(now he has me excited, my 68 Nova is sitting in the parking lot) Volkswagen(lame) Beetle.. But I'm committed.. punch it in... nothing comes up.. I instantly go up a year, down a year change engines everything the computer would let me.. no joy.. I will not be defeated.. I ask him "give me 2 minutes let me jump in the book.." He says no worries I'll hold.. So I jump in my Radiator books and am searching.. NOTHING!!!! So I get back on the phone and with anger and defeat I say "man, I'm sorry but would you hate me if I told you we don't stock or carry ANY radiators for your Bug" He says, "Would you hate me if I told you Bugs are Air Cooled...." and that's when I heard the laughter and they hung up... I got got.. I knew 100% Bugs were air cooled... but I was so caught up and in a rush... it didn't even register.. Good Times! What's your story?
