Good Morning, the following email will be going out to families of students with IEPs today: Dear Families of Students with IEPs, As you are aware, the District has been intensively planning for fall reopening with the District Reopening Committee. I want to assure you that the needs of our students with disabilities are being considered as schedules are being developed and proposed. We are continually monitoring county, state and federal guidelines to ensure that we follow ...best practices in reopening and meeting the needs of students with disabilities, in light of the current pandemic and safety concerns. The specific schedules for students with Specialized Academic Instruction can't be proposed until the District determines what the overall school schedules will look like. We are planning to have students receive their SAI in person and not remotely to the extent possible, within the context of the model for school schedules the district implements. Additionally, for those students planning to attend in person school, all related services will be provided in person. In person assessments will also begin again in August. The plans we make right now are based on the assumption that schools will be allowed to open and our community will not be on a shelter at home or school closure mandate. As you know, things change very quickly with this pandemic, so we are also making plans to provide 100% distance learning in the event schools are not able to open or if parents are able to opt for a distance only option even if schools open. We have been researching platforms and strategies to ensure students are provided with a quality education to meet their individual, unique needs, even under these difficult circumstances. We hope everyone is well and having a nice summer, as much as possible during these difficult times. Please be assured, our sole focus right now is on making fall plans that will meet the needs of your children.
Excited to still be planning our new pre-school program :)
BUSD Teachers have been hard at work reaching and engaging with their students remotely. Here is a heartwarming example of teacher Crystal Miron's class at Stevenson Elementary celebrating Earth Day as a class together Our teachers are rock stars! And thank you so much parents for being partners in this strange new world we are currently living in We know how much effort is going into supporting your children's education at home.

Did you know....BUSD is part of the Foohill Special Education Local Planning Area ("SELPA") and the SELPA operates numerous regional programs, including an Early Start Program (birth to three years) for little ones who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Regional programs such as this also take students from outerlying districts as well, which helps fund the programs. Below, a student blows bubbles as she works on using language in her envionment. And also some pics of their cute classroom housed at Valley View Elementary in Glendale.
