IBM recently announced its 2018 X-Force Threat Intelligence Index, revealing that the number of breached records declined in 2017: https://ibm.co/2JlJPck. But the decline is not an indication that cyber-crime has decreased, but rather that the focus of cyber-crime has shifted to ransomware and other destructive attacks.

The Beazley report says the second most frequent cause of data breach in healthcare entities is a hack or malware: http://bit.ly/2xajOWJ. Encryption is the best preventative for hack/malware, and bTrade's encryption software has the strength and security required by the US federal gov't: http://bit.ly/2irdmYR.
The good news from the Beazley report (at least from the perspective of a data security software company like bTrade) is that the majority of breach incidents for healthcare entities is human error. As Beazley noted, the best preventative for human error is electronic medical records software with "audit" capability. http://bit.ly/2iq4mDB . bTrade software powers electronic medical records systems and has robust "audit" capabilities.
Beazley’s quarterly breach insights report examines the major causes of data breaches reported by healthcare insureds in the first nine months of 2017: http://bit.ly/2xajOWJ.
#CyberAware Tip of the Week (from US fed gov't): Own your online presence. Control and limit who can see your information online by checking the privacy and security settings on your accounts and apps. Anything you post publicly could potentially be seen by a cyber criminal, so keep your personal information private. Your phone number, birthdate, address, and even pictures that show the license plate on your vehicle should not be posted publically. You should also turn off geotagging and location features on your mobile devices so criminals don’t know where you are in real time.
While there are tremendous benefits to connected devices, digitized records, as well as smart cars/homes, here is some good advice from a reputable org for how to use these cutting-edge innovations in safe and secure ways: http://bit.ly/2yxNxfN
