Interventional Pulmonology Dept Yashoda Hospitals Dr Arjun Maturu : 70 year old male is newly diagnosed with gastric cancer.... PET scan picked up an pulmonary nodule with 9mm in diameter with faint FDG uptake, along with subcentimetric sub carinal node. Biopsy of the 9 mm nodule was done by using Virtual bronchoscopic navigation and radial EBUS. Diagnosed as Carcinoid (Synchronous tumor) Linear EBUS of the subcentimetric node came positive for metastatic gastric cancer. Take home points: PET avidity need not to correlate with diagnosis. Sub centimetric nodules and nodes may also be biopsied when the clinical suspicion is high.
