One of my favorite kinds of baby-smiles are those that involve those first few teeth. Oh, my heart melts when those white bumps under the gums finally burst through and bring that extra sparkle to your little one's happy face. BUT, do I remember the fear. The oh-my-gosh-my-nipples-are-about-to-hop-off-my-body-to-avoid-being-chewed, preemptive crying, maybe even praying to the boob demigod for protection fear. Keep in mind, my oldest had a tongue tie at birth, and after the f...irst day, nipples bleeding, sobbing when latching day, I was horrified that I might have to repeat any of that. Now, everything turned out ok. But for any of you Mamas that might have The Fear, I hope this blog post may be of some comfort. Yes, I had to detach my kids a few times so they would learn not to nip the nip. At the end of the day, though, I survived my breastfeeding journey with both nipples securely attached to my (now slightly drooping) boobs. Happy Monday, Mamas. <3 See more
Trying to get back to some semblance of normalcy, I don't want to inundate this page with a whole bunch of articles relating to the virus and how it might or might not affect breastfeeding. There is still so much speculation on the virus overall. So, let's stick to something that is hard to get wrong - food. I'm pretty hungry, so I hope you find this list helpful!
Whew. I don't have to tell y'all that it's been an...interesting last several months. At first, it was my personal life that kept me hopping, and I thought THAT was hectic. I hope all of you are happy and healthy, and are hanging in there. Whether you have only a newborn with you, or a kid in every age-range, we understand. Things are tough. But you aren't alone.
I feel like there is such pressure to nurse, get our figure back, keep our composure...breastfeeding and the mental health of a mother go hand-in-hand. Please do not be afraid to get help if you are experiencing postpartum depression. Work with your physician. Work with a lactation consultant. If you aren't healthy, baby isn't benefiting either.
