What are screens? What am I looking at?! Why do shops charge setups? Read below... It's called screen printing for a reason! The photo you see above are screens that are in a screen rack. Kind of similar to a rack you would see at a bakery. These screens are frames, and instead of a picture in the middle, there's "mesh". The mesh is similar to the screen mesh you would have in your window, except made out of a different material, and weaved much tighter. The numbers on th...e screens identify how many lines per inch there are on the mesh. The more lines, the more detail we can "burn" onto a screen, but the less ink that can pass through the mesh. This is highly considered while choosing screens for your logo! That's why you see the numbers written on the side. Each one of these screens is cleaned, coated in a light sensitive chemical, dried, then used just for 1 color of your logo. That 1 color is "burned" then washed out, then dried again, then we BEGIN to setup your job on the press. Next up is taping screens, registering each color individually, then ink is applied to the screens, squeegees are cleaned and prepped, and now we can print a test print. If all is well, your job begins! Of course I left out LOTS of details to keep this from being a novel, but I think you get the point.
