Congratulations Helen!! "Praise God I finally got my DTM (Distinguished Toastmaster, highest award in Toastmasters International) after being in Toastmasters for 7 years! Toastmasters has helped me to develop my public speaking skills as I am no longer afraid to give speeches especially impromptu speaking since I had so much practice during club meetings. It has helped me to develop leadership and listening skills too. I served as Area D1 director this year, overseeing 5 clu...bs. I have met a lot of wonderful people and I thank everyone for your support! I think I must have given over 20 speeches this past year. Now I can take it easy. My goal was to get DTM before they phased out the traditional method June 30 so I won’t lose all my credits over the last 7 years. So glad I finished!" https://www.facebook.com/helen.c.low/posts/3103364193126522

We kicked off last night's meeting with well-deserved recognition for several members' educational accomplishments. Julian and Kevin both completed Level 4 of their Pathways programs, Earl finished his Effective Coaching program, Eden completed the classic Competent Communicator series of ten speeches, and Brian finished his Level 1 in Pathways. Following the awards, Catherine led a program that included three terrific speeches: Calvin told us about how he proposed to his wife, Omar shared with us the very interesting "Shakespeare Conspiracy," and Linda delivered a touching and beautiful Ice Breaker.

This past Saturday, Bread of Life Toastmasters participated in the Area D2/D6 International and Table Topics speech contest. Club mentor Ken Thompson won second place in the International Speech Contest and club president Brian Gee won second place in the Table Topics Contest. Both will serve as alternates for the District Contest in April 2020. Thank you to the several members who came to support our contestants: Jessie Cheng, Kevin Ensrud, Frieda Wang, Louise Ung, and Cai Liang!

With love in the air, Bread of Life Toastmasters hosted its special edition Valentine's Day-themed meeting. Club mentor Ken Thompson delivered a touching and well-crafted speech about the love of his mother, our Valentine's Day Table Topics provided some hilarious stories by couples, and we enjoyed many delicious dishes brought by members and guests. We especially want to thank the many guests who attended this meeting and shared their stories and good humor. We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming meeting!

We kicked off the Roaring '20s (2020s ) in style by hosting our first ever Evaluation Workshop. The club's longtime friend, Ann Guintivano of OMG Toastmasters, delivered an informative and highly applicable presentation on how we can make our speech evaluations more effective. Following Calvin's super interesting speech on Olympic rock climbing and Helen's dramatic speech about a corporate relocation, evaluators Louis and Samuel immediately put their new knowledge into action. Thursday's program was a win-win situation: we learned how to give better evaluations and Ann satisfied the final requirement needed for her Advanced Communicator Gold award. Congratulations, Ann Guintivano!
