Due to the prolonged heat wave and exceptionally high demand for electricity, the California Independent System Operator (ISO), which manages the state’s electric power grid, is continuing the statewide Flex Alert through Labor Day Weekend and has warned consumers to be prepared for rotating outages to be called from 4 pm. to 9 pm. today. Energy conservation is essential in helping reduce the possibility of widespread rotating outages and the number of people impacted. Unders...tandably, it may be difficult to reduce energy use during the high temperatures and the ongoing pandemic. However, everyone is urged to do their part to cut back on energy use, if health and safety permits, during this critical time. Helpful actions during the emergency include turning off air conditioners, avoiding the use of appliances, such as dishwashers, clothes washers, and dryers, switching off unnecessary lighting and delaying pool pump filtering and electric vehicle charging. Grid conditions are expected to be very challenging throughout the course of the week. The Flex Alert is in effect each day from 3pm to 10pm.
