I will never understand why so many people are silent in the face of any type of peer abuse. This is an extremely sensitive subject for me as my youngest son was destroyed by murdering words. Society tends to underestimate the common cruelty that takes place in schools by calling it bullying. Which in of itself is so painful for those who are touched by the verbal rampage of peer abuse. When we dismiss the verbal atrocities of our youth, please don’t be surprised when those children grow up to commit even worse acts violence. The acceptance of violence along with the glorification of violence needs to stop! We need to speak life over our children and we need to demand a better plan for dealing with any type of violence in our educational institutions.

September 15, 2008 will forever be the day that I learned what gut wrenching pain is, when my youngest son shot himself while at school. It was also his 17 birthday. The day of his birth and death is such a painful day. I will never understand - never.

Perspective and narrative are so important; typically we hear how unsafe schools are in light of a death by suicide due to peer abuse. How the narrative has changed in light of school being out; now being home is unsafe. Something needs to be done to seriously help children navigate their mental wellness. https://www.sacbee.com//health-and-m/article241838696.html

To such grieving persons I can only say, Lift up your heads and hearts. Surely you did your best. And surely the loved one who is gone did his best, for as long as he could. Remember, now, that his battles and torments are over. Do not judge him, and do not presume to fathom the mind of God where this one of His children is concerned.
