William Walsh (2023) takes Top Honors in the JGANC New Years Spring Junior at Castlewood Country Club with scores of 71-78 (+5). Cameron Keith (2022) takes Top Honors in the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour with rounds of 69-64 (-9). Cameron tallied 14 birdies for the week. What’s so cool for me to see is when a player puts up their lowest score ever in tournament play. This is not the norm, but neither is Cameron. Another cool part of this story was his younger brother (Colin Keith) took top honors in the boys 14-15 age group at (-3) while his younger sister finished solo 2nd in the 13 and under girls. William Walsh (2023) finishes 13th of a 160 player field in the 14th Annual FCG National Championship with scores of 69-70-78 (+1). Willy was T-1 after round 1 and 2nd after round 2. This makes 9 events for the shortened year. Of the 9 events Willy has 11 rounds below par. 7 rounds in the 60’s. Of the 9 events he has 5 top 10’s with 1 win, and one T-1 finish. The 2nd place finish was a scorecard playoff. Here’s the cool part, Willy’s work ethic is an A+. The great part is th...at he is only going to get better. Again, the numbers don’t lie. I’m not a huge fan of rankings, but I’m a big believer in the numbers. BTW, this does not include the two events which were 36 hole tournaments. 72 holes that included 19 birdies. The Twins !!! Geoffrey Jing and Albert Jing have made great strides in their pursue of playing collegiate golf. October 2019 we discussed where they were and what they needed to do. At that time Albert was ranked 2,900 overall on JGS and Geoffrey was at 3,499. Their instructor was Mike Kim, but at that time they were not members at San Jose CC. The plan was to join SJCC in order to see Mike more regularly and play more golf. The focus was on getting better, and better would t...ake care of everything. I can now say that after a year that Albert’s ranking has gone from 2900 to 631 overall. A move of approximately 2,270 spots. Geoffrey over the past year has made a move from 3,499 to 495 overall JGS ranking. A move up the board of approximately 3,000 spots. Gentlemen, you put in the work to get better, and the results show. I can’t begin to say how proud Mike, SJCC, and I are of both of you !!! William Walsh (2023) takes Top Honors in the JTNC Fall Series IX at Poppy Ridge with rounds of 67-71 (-6). Willy ended the 36 hole event in a 3-way tie for 1st. Willy’s two rounds included 8 birdies in round 1 and only 3 in round two. What’s unfortunate is that the JTNC doesn’t allow the players in the championship flights to strap on their clubs and go play for the championship on the golf course. The California State Boys Championship which was played at Del Rio CC, Willy w...as tied for 1st and won in a scorecard playoff. The tournament director asked him if he would like to do a playoff for the title. He never hesitated! He took his hands off of the trophy and said let’s go !!!
