Our little league has a tradition of awarding one child from each division as Sportsman of the Year. Kellen was nominated for his determination and dedication to playing and not missing a game even when he broke his arm. When he realized one arm was out of commission for four weeks, he begged me to go the park and practice his one arm swing, all week, until he could get it down. He found a left handed glove and stopped the ball Jim Abbott style and picked it up with his glove, tucked his glove under his armpit, and threw the ball to first. His love for this sport is unusual, and adorable, and I hope he always has the same joy as he plays through out his life. Thank you Aliso Viejo Little League - AVLL

What a magical day yesterday was! The fog almost kept me away, but the call of the ocean was louder in my mind, and I paddled out with Catherine Guggenheimer Pearlman and ran into Rich German on the water. Rich waved us down and called us over because a juvenile grey whale was in 10-15 feet of water at Shaw's Cove, Laguna Beach OC !!! We were slow getting over, but didn't miss this amazing encounter. This whale even swam five feet from us, and it was one of the most touching experiences of my life! Unfortunately I was unable to get the photo in focus, but the memory will always be crystal clear in my mind. Thanks to ocean loving friends and whale season in Laguna Beach, California (Noel Besuzzi)
