We are very pleased to announce the publication of author Tom Gilfoy's book, Growing Up in Sunland and Other Short Stories. In his book, Tom offers a youthful account of days gone by in the small town of Sunland, California, raising his family in Lake View Terrace, and spending high school and college summers working as a logger in the woods of Northeastern California. With two exceptions, this is a collection of stories and memoirs originally published in either the Corners...tone, a publication of the Little Landers Historical Society, or The Voice of the Village, Sunland-Tujunga's local newspaper. The two exceptions are the memoirs found in Part II, which are being published here for the first time. This book is available exclusively through Little Landers Historical Society, via: https://boltonhall.square.site. Order your copy today!

Stone Home Round-Up The LLHS Preservation committee needs your help! We are compiling a comprehensive inventory of all the original stone homes in Tujunga, as we seek to gain protection for this rare form of local architecture so crucial to our town's early history and development. Using 2015's Survey L.A. as our starting point, we are asking for the public's help in identifying any examples that were missed and not included. We are specifically interested in native stone hom...es and stone/wood-frame homes dating from the 1910s-1920s. We are also interested in the addresses of any original stone homes that have been re-clad (most often with stucco) or have been demolished. If you have any photos of these *lost* structures, we would greatly appreciate those, too! Check here to see if a property is already listed in SurveyLA: https://planning.lacity.org//Sunland-Tujunga-Lake_View_Ter If an existing stone home is listed, we do not need that data. If it is not already listed, OR If it is listed, but has been re-clad or demolished, please send us the following: 1) street address 2) current property photo (a phone photo is fine!) Please email your findings to: [email protected] subject line: Stone Home Round-Up Thank you for your interest in preserving our history!
In January, we launched ‘70s Turn 50, an initiative exploring the 1970s impact on the built environment. After a brief hiatus, we’re continuing our conversation... about all things ‘70s. Follow along as we explore architectural trends, social/culture trends, and movements that defined this decade of transformation for L.A. laconservancy.org/70sTurn50
Send us Your COVID-19 Stories, Thoughts and Photos! Little Landers is an Historical Society and with COVID-19, we are all living an historical event together. In the last several months, our lives have been temporarily changed dramatically. We would like you to share your thoughts and stories about your recent experiences for the Bolton Hall Museum archives. You are part of local history, and years from now, people reading your stories and seeing your photos will be able t...o better understand the COVID-19 experience of 2020. Are you keeping a journal or record of your thoughts? Are you taking photos? Subjects you might want to write about and share with Bolton Hall Museum are: How has your life and the lives of those you love changed? How are you keeping in touch with family and friends? Are you leaving your home for neighborhood walks, food shopping, necessary appointments or work? How does it feel to see empty shelves and closed restaurants and other businesses? How are you filling your time at home? New activities? More time for other activities that there never seemed to be enough time for? Are you working from home? If you have children at home, what are their days like? Did you get the virus? How was your care and recovery? Anything else that you would like to share with future generations? Your "stories" can be sent as notes or short answers to the above questions or any other subjects that relate to this historical event, or a paragraph, an article or a longer journal and can be posted as a comment, sent to us via Facebook Messenger, by e-mail or snail mail. LLHS, P.O. Box 203, Tujunga, CA 91043, or [email protected] Thank you for sharing your thoughts with LLHS and Bolton Hall Museum. These are historic times. COVID-19 may have dramatically changed our daily lives, but our greatest strength is in community. Please join the L.A. Conservancy in... supporting our local businesses and the workers and communities who rely on them. Whether it’s through takeout, delivery, or even donations, we encourage you to patronize the many businesses that remain open and find ways to support those that are closed. Legacy businesses are long-standing community anchors where neighbors connect, memories are made, and our sense of community nourished. How are YOU supporting legacy and small businesses? Share your tips, ideas, and resources for businesses and employees at #ISupportLegacyBusinesses to help inspire good in your community. We’re in this together.
