We recently worked with Steadfast Development and @weoneil_ca on Allara, a senior housing project in the @cityofranchocucamonga . The project is in the construction phase and models are open. Our PM @diego_a.lopez turned his childhood hobby into a career: As a child in Peru, I Ioved drawing landscapes and cartoon figures, but it wasn't until I was in college that I realized I could make a career out of my childhood pastime. I started my career at a design/build company and quickly realized that I love construction noise, not surprising since it reminds me of my grandfathers, one was a miner and the other a builder who loved eyeballing his measurements, but most im...portantly that I love watching my drawings come to life. Our Senior PM @ivelazquez4295 draws inspiration from water: At an early age, I learned how to water corn crops from my grandfather. Channeling and directing water using gravity allowed me to understand the role that water has in giving us life. What I learned at an early age became essential when I started working in the landscape construction field. While in school my main focus was to develop concepts that centered around water. Our Designer Rogelio @litolowland found his way to Landscape Architecture through his family: My family pretty much molded me to love the land. I grew up around the construction industry with my dad, and I find it fascinating how a structure is built into the land through different foundations. My mother taught me to care for plants and they will care back, we use plants a lot for medicinal purposes and fruit crops, so I have grown up having a tender appreciation for them. Lastly, my sister would constantly take me out hiking to see all the different landscapes, and I learned how much natural beauty is out there. #lovetheland #lifegrowshere @duaneborderdesign

Our Landscape Designer @rickdz05 grew up in an urban area with limited open space to play: Hearing about the rural area my parents grew up where hills, creeks, swings on trees and grasslands were a normal setting, it became a fixation. That is when I realized I wanted to become an advocate for open space for those around me and for future kids with the need for open space. Senior PM and resident arborist Jeff @trees_and_design found his calling to Landscape Architecture in high school: My love of doodling and nature, coupled with the Landscape Architect that came and gave a talk at my school spoke to me and had me hooked; and I haven’t looked back. From sketching to installation, the process drives me. Seeing the spaces happily and actively being used on a daily basis is like fuel for the fire. Our Landscape Architect and GIS Specialist Xiaoxue @eira.snow finds inspiration in the simplest things: Growing up in an urban area, I didn't get a chance to connect to Nature. But in my sophomore year studying Landscape Architecture, we were required to observe the blooming around the campus. Through our daily visits, I saw thousands of ways nature interprets colors. Even just a simple white and green. Then I noticed the smiles: around the flowers, in the gardens, next to fountains, in the urban oasis. I saw how my job could brighten people's daily life. What a rewarding career! I get a chance to bridge the magic of nature to those smiling faces. #magicofnature #lifegrowshere @duaneborderdesign

Our VP of Operations @steeevr1970 shares his LA inspiration: My inspiration came from my initial love of drawing in elementary school: I drew everything from cartoon characters to all of the pets in my neighborhood to creative buildings. Then, when I was 16, I met a landscape architect that needed help at his studio drawing base sheets, running errands, and measuring job sites. This was in the day of Rapidograph pens, reverse read sepias, sticky backs and Kroy machines. Don’t forget those electric erasers that left dust flakes all over the place, especially in your coffee mug. I feel blessed that, at such a young age, I met a landscape architect who guided me into a lifestyle which I have never once looked at as a job. Our LA studio principal, Duane Border, found his inspiration early in life: My inspiration was growing up in an agriculture family/community where the land was life.
