We normally take some time off from Black Tie in the summer, but this year we did a lot of planning for winter operations to keep our staff and customers safe during COVID. We've revamped our operations to make sure you have comfortable, safe options when you rent from us. This season we're offering no contact and limited contact delivery. It makes us so happy to see our community coming together to take care of each other in these hard times. We closed our doors when Mammoth Mountain shut down due to COVID-19 and miss our dream team every day. But the silver lining is getting to do things like this -- Black Tie co-owner Jeremy Goico has been volunteering at the Visit Mammoth drive-up food bank to get food to our Mammoth Lakes community members in need. We deliver to any lodging property in Mammoth Lakes, but we're especially grateful for our many partner properties in town for making it even easier for us and for our guests to rent skis. If you're staying at Sierra Nevada Resort & Spa, we have a small ski shop right on site. We partnered with Protect Our Winters this season for a co-branded neck gaiter to sell at our walk-in shop. Proceeds from the neck gaiter sales go to POW, a nonprofit founded by Jeremy Jones that works on systemic solutions to climate change. Come snag a neck gaiter to stay warm and sun-protected while contributing to a great cause.

We became a member of the California Green Business Network last year. One of the changes we made is that we're now selling and utilizing Mountainflow eco-wax. We find that it performs just as well as normal wax, and it's plant-based and 100% biodegradable, so it's much better for the environment!

Every February, gear reps from dozens of ski and snowboard brands come to Mammoth Mountain for two days of on-snow demos of all the new equipment. Our whole staff at Black Tie attended demo days to test the new gear and figure out what will serve our guests best next season. The conclusion? Our 2020-2021 rental gear will be the best we've ever had!

We'll have a few of these sweet specs from Smith for sale in the shop this spring! The Smith Wildcat offers goggle-inspired coverage with sunglass-inspired performance. They come with a bright light ChromaPop lens and a second clear lens for low light days. Would you ski with these? Do you like the classic black frames or the blue and pink frames?

We're stoked for Dynastar's new M-Line that we got to check out at Outdoor Retailer. Dynastar describes the M-Line as smooth and precise, and explosive yet stable. We'll be carrying the M-Line Pro and M-Line Free skis from Dynastar next season. Our rep, Andy Miller, gave us a brand new M-Pro 99 for the shop to test for next season. We can't wait to take it out -- thanks, Andy!

We spent last week swooning over all the latest and greatest ski technology shared at Outdoor Retailer -- this event is held at the end of January every year in Denver, CO. The Armada Skis Declivity series is pretty amazing. One of our favorite things about Armada skis is the artwork... not only do they ski great, but they look great too. We'll have the Declivity series available for rent next season. We can't wait for our team to try them out at demo days in Mammoth next week!

We keep our ATOMIC SKIING Bent Chetler 120s and our Armada Skis ARV 116 JJs in the back so they're ready for special occasions: big powder days. We're all doing our snow dances, are you?!

Every January the Black Tie Skis ownership team attends the Outdoor Retailer Snow Show in Denver. We get a sneak peek of the latest technology for skis, boards, boots and bindings. We love getting feedback from all of our renters on what they'd like to see us carry, so as we get ready to head to OR, let us know what skis, boards, etc. you'd like to see in our fleet! We currently carry Armada, Atomic, Blizzard, Burton, Dynastar, K2, Never Summer, Nordica, Salomon, Tecnica, Tribe and Volkl.

After hours on a holiday weekend, our walk-in shop fitting area turns into a staging area for dozens of deliveries the next day. Cheers to everyone who came to ski Mammoth Mountain this holiday weekend! And if you have the Ikon Base Pass, we'll see you this weekend.

If you're doing this at Mammoth Mountain, we can definitely hook you up with some great skis. But if you're just sticking to greens and blues, we have skis for that too!

We're just one of 16 Black Tie Ski locations across North America, but each one is locally owned and operated so we can cater the experience to the local mountain and clientele. Owners Colin Fernie and Jeremy Goico have lived in Mammoth for more than a decade, so we're always adding new gear that will serve you best when shredding Mammoth Mountain.

If you like hiking, you should try snowshoeing. It doesn't have quite the thrill of downhill skiing or snowboarding, but it's another great way way to experience the beauty of the Sierra. We rent snowshoes from our walk-in shop on Old Mammoth Road and we're always happy to let you know our favorite spots. Have you snowshoed in Mammoth before?!

When we started planning our walk-in location a few years ago, we wanted it to feel like home. We tell people, "We'll come to your living room, or you can come to ours." Our in-shop fits still get custom fitting, slopeside service and return pickups!

Ski tuner Shawn Ross makes magic happen. We have a full tuning shop to keep our rentals in top condition, but you can drop your gear off with us for a tune or hot wax anytime too!

We've always offered premium boot upgrades for skiers who rent with us, but this year we brought in a premium snowboard boot too. The K2 Snowboarding Maysis is a top-selling boot that offers a double BOA system to deliver the best fit. The snowboard boot upgrade is an extra $10 a day.

Christmas comes early at Black Tie when we get a ton of new gear in the fall. If you're renting with us over the holidays, you might be the first to ride some of our new equipment!

We were lucky to get a pair of the Grateful Dead ATOMIC SKIING Bent Chetler skis before they sold out -- only 250 were released worldwide! They're so beautiful we're going to hang them in our walk-in shop instead of riding them. Stop by and check them out!

We've had a few beautiful bluebird days this week Mammoth Mountain. Who's been getting out?! There's more snow in the forecast so we're soaking up the sun while it's here.

Last week we wrapped up our staff clinics with reps from Smith, Armada Skis, Gordini, Nordica, Blizzard Ski, Tecnica Sports, Burton Snowboards, Salomon, ATOMIC SKIING, Tribe Snowboards, Dynastar and Pret Helmets. Throwing it back to the 2016/2017 winter to share another one of our core values... teamwork. You know it took a good team to dig our way through the snow just to get into our office at Sierra Nevada Resort & Spa. And yes, we deliver in ANY weather, even if your doorway looks like this!

This Thanksgiving, we're thankful for our Black Tie Skis dream team, the Mammoth Lakes community, and all of our amazing customers who trust us to match them with the perfect skis or snowboard! We celebrated Thanksgiving early with a team lunch at Dos Alas CubaRican Café & Lounge last week. Cheers to a great winter season ahead!

The Mammoth Lakes business community is working together on a new local initiative: banning single-use plastic bottles under 24 oz. Sustainability is paramount here at Black Tie, so we strongly support this petition. We're working on installing a water refilling station in the shop, and we'll be selling reusable water bottles all season long. Add your signature to support the plastic bottle ban!

Empowering our staff and supporting our local community are both really important to us. The Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce offers trainings throughout the year for local businesses, and this week all of our staff got to learn from Justin Patton - Executive Leadership Coach. Black Tie owner Jeremy Goico has been involved with the local Chamber for years and has developed a passion for helping elevate the customer service experience in Mammoth Lakes.

Setting up the shop in the beginning of the season has us all Brand new Armadas, Salomons, Volkls and Nordicas just waiting for you to take them out!

We're happy to officially be certified as a member of the California Green Business Network. Sustainability is one of our core values, so going through this process was awesome. If you're a California business, we highly recommend getting certified!

**Please Share and Like this Video and Report** Thanks from the Snowman Great Skiing and Snow Boarding on Mammoth Mountain today: I am still in a bit of shock t...hat we just went from dirt on all but 2 trails to having 68 trails open. Add in you not hitting rocks all over and we have just entered Fantasy land here at Mammoth Mountain. Headed out for a 3 hour session this morning and the first thing I noticed was the groomed snow was great. Was wondering how it would groom out since the snow that fell is about is heavy and wet as it can get. Matter of fact every groom run I hit today was in great shape. As the morning went on the snow got turned up and the wind started blowing it all around. When that happens it's like skiing sugar snow. It's so soft and fun to turn in. One of the best runs I found today was skiing the chair line area on 5 in the endlessly refilling sun line. If you check out today's video you will see the shots from that run. Such fun stuff, I wanted to just do it over and over again. I got up top and the snow on Cornice was very soft and fun. Over on the Drop Outs it is pure chalky wind buff. Every turn sends nice fat spray up in the air. As the am goes on that snow that gets carved and spraying into the air adds some fun sugar snow to the mix. Right now the Drops Out are Game On in Mid Season Shape. Get out there and charge them in some of the best November snow surface and pack you will ever see. St Anton was sweet, no rocks with some nice and soft corduroy to turn on. Laps on Chair 3 are also just about perfect today with all that soft stuff blowing around. Center Bowl, West Bowl, China Bowl & Christmas Bowl are all great with perfect coverage. All the other little lines and paths on 3 are skiable as well. I will be back out daily and will report back what I find... Snowman out.
