It's World Sleep Day! How’s your sleep? For some, it’s great, but if that’s not you that doesn’t mean you’re broken, it just means this is an area that needs some attention. Here are 10 tips to get more sleep. 1. Go to sleep at the same time each night, and get up at the same time each morning, even on the weekends. 2. Don't take naps after 3 p.m, and don't nap longer than 20 minutes. 3. Stay away from caffeine and alcohol late in the day.... 4. Avoid nicotine completely. 5. Get regular exercise, but not within 2-3 hours of bedtime. 6. Don't eat a heavy meal late in the day. A light snack before bedtime is OK. 7. Make your bedroom comfortable, dark, quiet, and not too warm or cold. 8. Follow a routine to help you relax before sleep (for example, reading or listening to music). Turn off the TV and other screens at least an hour before bedtime. 9. Don’t lie in bed awake. If you can’t fall asleep after 20 minutes, do something calming until you feel sleepy, like reading or listening to soft music. 10. Talk with a doctor if you continue to have trouble sleeping. Per instructions from Monterey County Public Health Department, we are currently vaccinating everyone in phase 1a and are creating a list of our most vulnerable patients 65+. As soon as we know when we are able to receive additional vaccine, we will put out a PSA inviting those 65 years of age and older to call for an appointment. In the meantime, please be patient and we will get to you as soon as possible. Sharen Carey, PA-C Executive Director Big Sur Health Center

Big Sur Foragers Festival Virtual Cooking Demo--24 Hours Left to Sign Up! We’ve all seen mushrooms growing in the wild, but few are brave enough to identify what’s safe and edible, bring them home and prepare a delicious, exotic meal. Chad Hyatt is that guy one fun guy, if you will. The noted chef and author of The Mushroom Hunter’s Kitchen will host a 1-hour virtual cooking demo on Saturday, Jan. 23rd in support of the Big Sur Foragers Festival. The special Zoom event... will begin at 3 p.m., and will include an appearance from Todd Spanier, noted naturalist, chef, forager, slow food advocate, entrepreneur and mushroom expert.
