Dryer Not Heating? 5 Tips to Avoid Dryer Problems. One of the best sensations is sifting through a load of warm laundry on a cold day: socks straight from the dryer are a must-have, especially in Winter months. But to open a dryer only to find everything still damp and cold, that’s a situation no one wants. So why did your dryer not do its job? Here are 5 tips to avoid this unpleasant scenario:... 1. Check the thermal fuse: this is the root cause of a lot of non-functioning dryers. The thermal fuse is a one-time-use fuse designed to trip in the event the dryer gets too hot, as a safety precaution. If the clothing in your dryer haven’t been drying, the fuse may need replacing. 2. Check the exhaust vent: to prevent the fuse from tripping in the first place, you’ll want to make sure factors that can cause it to overheat are removed from the picture. It may be clogged with dust or lint, or there may be an impediment at its end which would typically vent to the outside. Also make sure to clean the lint trap regularly to help prevent this. 3. Confirm the timer is functioning: a timer that isn’t progressing may result in the dryer staying on too long, which may in turn result in overheating, setting off the fuse. 4. Confirm the thermostat is functioning: the thermostat keeps the temperature of your dryer regulated, should it fail the dryer may begin to overheat. 5. Faulty heating coils: the mechanism which heats up the dryer in the first place, should these malfunction the dryer will not heat even with an intact thermal fuse. Our professional technicians will be happy to address this situation further for you. How to Fix a Refrigerator that Is Not Cooling Perhaps the single most used appliance in the kitchen is the refrigerator, and when you open it to find the light doesn’t turn on or the motor hasn’t been powering up like usual, it can be a troubling situation. No one wants their food to go to waste! So how to address a refrigerator that isn’t cooling? To minimize damage while you inspect the fridge, keep the door closed as long as possible to preserve the cold and keep your food...stuffs preserved. The first step is to confirm the fridge is receiving power. A flipped circuit breaker or a malfunctioning outlet might be the root of the problem. Confirm the thermostat within the fridge hasn’t been turned all the way down, as this can give the illusion of a malfunction when a simple turn of the knob can clear things right up. And check that the doors have been closing properly and the sealant is still intact to keep the cold in. Additionally, a malfunctioning door-closing sensor may be to blame, not recognizing when the door is closed so not activating the fridge’s cooling motors; this can be noticed if there is power flowing to the fridge but the light doesn’t activate when opened. A common cause of a non-cooling fridge is dirty coils on the back or under it. Unclog them with a good cleaning to make sure the fridge runs at maximum efficiency. There are some other issues that may require a more professional touch to get your fridge running properly again. For instance, a malfunctioning condenser fan can result in a lot of noise while not cooling the contents within. In a situation like this, professionals like Big City Appliance Repair will be happy to help your fridge get back to peak condition! Why doesn't the dishwasher tablet dissolve? Your dishwasher is full, you insert the dishwasher tablet into its compartment and close the dispenser door, then close the dishwasher and turn it on. An hour or so later the cycle is complete and you open the washer door, only to find the dishes are still dirty and the detergent tablet is intact and undissolved. What might be causing this dilemma? There are a number of possible explanations: One of the easiest diagnoses to make is ...if the dispenser door is open at all. If the table is still trapped inside, then there may be an issue with the door’s automatic latch, or perhaps something in the washer blocked it from popping open if improperly placed. It’s possible the water never got hot enough. Some tablets are designed to dissolve with a combination of heat and moisture, between 120-160 degrees F, and cold water may not do the trick. Make sure the water from your faucet can heat up, if not then there might be an issue to address with your home’s water heater. The circulation pump, which forces the water up through the spinning sprayer arms, could be malfunctioning or jammed, preventing adequate amounts of water from passing through to dissolve the tablet. This is often accompanied by a lot of noise when the washer is active, so keep an ear open for any unusual sounds during the cycle. Additionally, the sprayer arms themselves could be blocked, preventing them from either spinning about to properly distribute water, or their nozzles may be blocked with particulate matter. Any one of these issues could be the culprit in preventing your tablets from dissolving, with some luck a quick check of these situations will help your dishes return to their spick-and- span status. 5 Most Common Freezer Problems and Solutions Freezers are one of those appliances that a household requires to work in peak condition 24-7; even a refrigerator which has to keep everything cold can stay depowered for a short period so long as you keep the door closed, as the cold requirements aren’t as high. But any interruption in a freezer’s function, even a short one, can leave foodstuffs ruined. Here are five of the most common freezer problems and how to address them: 1.... Frost buildup: when ice builds up on the contents, this may be the result of the defrost heater not working properly; this item keeps ice from building up on the evaporator coils, allowing moist air to flow out of the compartment, and will potentially require a repair specialist to assess the issue further. 2. Freezer too warm: the biggest threat to the contents of your freezer is heat. The two biggest factors are either a malfunctioning thermostat, or it may be the door isn’t sealing properly; check that nothing is blocking it from within, and check the sealant is still in good condition. 3. Freezer not running: a quick assessment to make sure power is flowing through the socket helps. It could be something as benign as a flipped circuit breaker or loose power cord. 4. Noisy freezer: frost buildup on the interior fan, often the result of frost-covered evaporator coils, can make the freezer operate far louder than usual. This is an issue that may be best resolved by a skilled technician. 5. Leaking water: this could be the result of overflowing condensation pan, again the result of too much frost building up on the evaporator coils; this is potentially due to overusage in high-heat or high-humidity situations.
