In times like these, it has never been more important to practice "The Golden Rule" that we were all taught as children...Be Kind. Share.

Good morning everyone! Hope everyone is still healthy. BBSG just wants to clarify San Bernardino County's "opening of lakes and trails" statement. A lot of people are asking if BBL is opening for boating. The answer at this time is No. Big Bear Lake is Not a County run lake. Places like Glen Helen and Yucaipa Regional Park may be opened for use under the County's order as long as social distancing recommendations are followed. The shore around BBL has remained open for shoreline fishing as long as proper distancing and face masks have been worn. The situation remains fluid and our Lake's boating status may change as the MWD works in conjunction with State and Local Government agencies.

The Big Bear Lake MWD announced lastnight that the Lake surface is closed for recreational use (Boating, kayaking, float tube fishing etc...) until further notice. Anglers may fish from the shoreline as long as they practice social distancing. Big Bear Sporting Goods remains closed in accordance with State Orders. ... The " Fishin' Guys" continue to pray everyone stays healthy and we look forward to seeing our friends and customers as soon as it is safe to do so. We will post updates as the situation continues to develop. Stay Home - Stay Safe - Stay Healthy

Hi Folks. The "Fishin Guys" hope everyone is safe and healthy. Just wanna update y'all on the status of Big Bear. 1) The City of Big Bear Lake and ALL the unincorporated surrounding areas (San Bernardino County i.e. Big Bear City, Sugarloaf, Erwin Lake, Fawnskin etc...) there is ZERO overnight lodging Allowed...Hotels...Hostels...Air BnBs ....Private Short Term Rental Cabins...are ordered closed. 2) The Local Stores are starting to get resupplied with basic food and cleaning... items. We,as locals, are grateful that we do not have to compete with non residents ( But Who Are Very Welcomed Guests when BBL. is not in a midst of a Pandemic) for these basic items .... 3) Times like this can either bring out the Worst or Best in Humanity. So far we in the BB Valley are seeing the Best! Not only Friends and Neighbors but also our First Responders and Healthcare providers. BBSG is trying to help out too. We are running a skeleton crew and are open 9am to 3pm . Hopefully all PCT hikers are off the trail by now, but to those who are not, BBSG is a place you can get trail food, fuel, rain gear and water purification so you can continue until you can get off trail. The Hostels are closed in Big Bear. The "Fishin' Guys" hope that everyone stays healthy and safe. "Share Kindness...Give What you can and take only what you need...We're All In This Together...Together is how we will beat it!" BBSG

The "Fishin' Guys" at Big Bear Sporting Goods pray that this post finds all of our FB friends and Customers in good health and getting ready for the start of another great "Catchin' " season on Big Bear Lake. As winter begins to give way to spring the bite is picking up at Big Bear Lake. Since the launch ramps are closed until April 1st fishing from the shoreline is the only way to set your hooks into some beautiful Rainbows. Local anglers Devin, Dan, Chris and Richard have been catching some great looking fish along the North Shore. The K.I.S.S. method of soaking Power Bait off a Carolina Rig is the way to go.

Phil's fish breaks the record that has stood since 2012 (set by Mike Madden @ 3.64lbs) . Phil's fish was released in good health after the weight and measurements were taken. Big Bear Sporting Goods is proud to be one of six IGFA (International Game Fishing Association) Official Weigh Stations in California!!! There are No Others in San Bernardino County! All Local, State, or World Record catches Must be weighed at an IGFA weigh Station to be officially certified as valid. https://igfa.org/weigh-stations-list/?council=north_america

What a great week and a half its been! Water temps are 54 to 58 lake wide and the D.O. is high. Nothing holding schools of Bows in just one area. ... Seeing Great catches from Boat and Shore! We are seeing Bankies hauling in full stringers and Big fish from the Red House to Juniper Point along the North Shore. Carolina Rigs fished off the bottom with Long Leaders of 2 to 4 lb. test fluoro. Original and Yellow garlic Power Bait are getting these fish on the stringers. Trollers are working the same areas of the North Shore especially in front of the West Launch Ramp to the Solar Observatory. Shallow depths of 8 to 15 feet and a variety of lures and baits have Trollers and Charter Captains hooking up with some Sizeable Trout! With weather forecasts calling for Santa Ana winds and warmer weather temps for the coming week we can't say how much longer the "Catchin' Action" will be this good. But fingers crossed that low pressure and cooler temps will bring the Valley temps back down. Luke Fortune was soaking garlic Power bait near Juniper Point when he caught this hefty 9.4lb Rainbow. Mel Friese of Big Bear left his secret regular "Honey Hole" for the promise of bigger fish at Juniper Point and walked away with a 4.5lb beauty he quickly put on the stringer to keep his 3lb fish company! Charter Captain Sean Rabago was very happy to share some of his clients catches including a behemoth 10.1lb 'Bow trolling a Rapala lure. Andrew Mack was trolling in front of the West West Launch Ramp and Observatory when he caught a 7 and 9 pounder on the same circuit! Local angler Danny D. And His buddy shared a nice stringer in front of our shop that they took trolling near the south shore ...and Frank "Mino" showed the 4lb +/_ he caught on the Troll as well. Little Josiah did well at Juniper point with his 3 fish stringer. As did William Meisner with his limit laid out on the wood planks... There is no time like the present to wet a line and get in on some of the amazing action going on at Big Bear Lake. Call the "Fishin Guys" at BBSG 909-866-3222 to get helpful fishing advice and the latest lake and weather reports.
