BidRL.com Bakersfield is now open and bidding! For our bidders in the Bakersfield area, or those passing through, come on by and check us out! We are at 301 Espee street suite C. The signs in the picture on this post are a great "artist rendition", the actual signs are still on their way so don't worry if you get there and don't see the signs. We'd love to see you!

We have had a few people ask why all our invoices suddenly have the Prop 65 warning on them. The short answer is that people are engaging in frivolous lawsuits against companies who do not have Prop 65 warnings in place, extorting them for thousands of dollars and then moving on to victimize the next unsuspecting target. We are protecting the company against those people. The long answer is that Prop 65 requires the State of California to publish a list of chemicals known t...o potentially cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. That list has ballooned to an incredibly long list of substances, many of which are very mundane and currently in all of our homes right now. Spoiler alert! If you have any cleaning products in your home, you have chemicals that are known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Want to know what else is on that list that you may very well have in your home? Read this partial list at your own risk; remember how you loved hot dogs until you learned what was in them? This list may have a similar effect. Substances known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. wood dust salted fish oral contraceptives leather dust engine exhaust (maybe we can all hold our breath while we drive) alcoholic beverages Estrogen, Progesterone and Testosterone (yes, it’s true, being human is known to the State of California to cause cancer) coconut oil caffeic acid (No! Not Coffee! Say it isn’t so! Sorry, it is.) Aspirin (it doesn’t cause cancer just reproductive harm during pregnancy) Aloe Vera (sorry sun burn sufferers) There are more than a thousand other substances on that list Fortunately tap water is NOT on that list yet, but chemicals that can be found in tap water are. I’ll leave those conclusions up to you. Prop 65 further requires that any business that has, uses or sells any chemical on the list post a warning to customers that such chemicals are within the business. Since that list is so long and always changing, nearly every business in California is required to post that sign. While we don’t ever sell alcohol or oral contraceptives, we have sold coffee, coconut oil and aloe vera. Our warehouses can also be a bit dusty and, well, dust is on the list. If we thought that being in our warehouses and handling the product that we do increased our risk of cancer, birth defects and other reproductive harm more than life already does, we wouldn’t be there ourselves. We do know that with the length and variability of the Prop 65 list, we are required to post the warning. Thus, to ensure we are in compliance with the law, the Prop 65 warning is now printed on every invoice.

Bidder Names We have seen some pretty creative and inventive ways people attempt to gain an advantage in auctions through their bidder names. Some try to plead with names like, please don’t bid against me, or this is for my sick child. Some try to trick with names like, closed, ordamaged. Some try to intimidate with names that threaten like, I’ll find you. In addition to getting their accounts disabled if they are being tricky or threatening, these bidders always f...ail in their attempt to influence the auction. To understand why these attempts universally backfire, we need to look at how people react to stuff like that. The thing to remember is that even though these auctions are online they are not anonymous. There is a real live person behind each bidder name you see and they react like, well, real people. While each person is unique and predicting individual behavior is pretty tough, if you study groups of people you can start to see trends and patterns. When considering bidder behavior, there are a few things you can predict. One predictable behavior is that any attempt to influence other bidders behavior results in backlash. People don’t like to be manipulated and if they interpret what you are doing as manipulative they tend to get upset and are more likely to bid against you, not less likely. Thus attempts such as those outlined above tend to result in more people bidding on any item the offending bidder is bidding on. The thought behind that can best be described as, if you’re going to be a jerk you either aren’t going to win or you are going to have to pay dearly if you do. The best strategy when it comes to bidder names is to be simple, polite and not draw attention to yourself. If you follow those guidelines, bidders will respond to you the same way they respond to a live person who is simple, polite and doesn’t draw attention to themselves; they probably won’t even notice you. Remember, this is an auction; you don’t want to be noticed. People yelling things like "Yup!" make for great TV but do not reflect the true behavior of effective bidders. Other bidders that regularly participate in auctions will come to recognize bidder names that they see frequently, but even if they do come to recognize your bidder name, at least they won’t think ill of you which means they probably won't be inclined to bid you up just for the sake of it. In an auction environment, you couldn’t ask for more.

The latest in the tips and trick series. HOW TO AVOID PAYING TOO MUCH Auctions can be great places to get awesome deals and buy things you can use at a fraction of their retail value, or that you can sell for a profit. It is very important to understand that auctions are also a very attractive form of entertainment. People often say they have been bitten by the auction bug or are addicted to bidding. These types of statements indicate how entertaining auctions can be a...Continue reading

Here is another in the tips and tricks series. We hope you find it helpful. EFFECTIVE USE OF THE PROXY Generally, all auction bid prices start at $1.00 and have an increment of $0.25, yet it is common to see bid prices that are off that bid increment schedule; bids of $7.26 or $11.47. Have you ever wondered how and why that happens? It is the result of bidders familiar with, and effective at, the use of proxy bids. There are two things that these bidders know; first, that... the way they value items is tremendously similar to the way others value items. That means, if they are willing to pay $10.00 for a toaster, but not $11.00, then chances are, most others interested in that toaster are on the same value. The second is that the $0.25 bid increment is a minimum bid over the current bid price, meaning if you bid more than the minimum bid price you can enter any amount you want. With those two bits of understanding, let’s see how it plays out in an auction. Let’s say that the you are willing to pay $10.00, but not $11.00, for the toaster mentioned above. First, narrow your price down to exactly what you would be willing to pay. If the toaster sold for $10.50 would you regret not buying it? If so, set your price at $10.50. Since you assume that others are going to also be willing to pay $10.50, and since there is no guarantee that you will be the first bidder to reach the $10.50 price, you want to take steps to ensure that you have the best chance of winning the item, so you enter a bid of $10.51. Here is why. Assuming no one else has put in a higher bid than yours, the bidding will progress normally until it reaches $10.50. Let's say that Jane Doe places that $10.50 bid and receives the message that her bid has been received but another bidder has a higher bid. Unbeknownst to Jane Doe that bidder is you and now she sees her $10.50 bid outbid by your $10.51 proxy bid. If Jane Doe doesn’t know how proxies work she yells, 'fowl play!' because she sees your bid increment of $0.01 beating hers, but now she must bid $10.76 ($0.25 over the current bid price) to beat yours. Now, maybe she will bid higher and maybe she won’t, but now she must make the agonizing decision to bid higher than she wanted, and you don’t. Some people take this strategy and play with it; instead of bidding $0.01 more than their highest bid price, they bid $0.11 or $0.24 over highest bid price, that is how the bid increments get off of the $0.25 increment schedule, but the concept is the same. Give yourself the best chance of winning the item for a price you are happy with.

Bidders often ask if we have any tips or tricks to help them bid more effectively, so we thought we would start posting some. Here is one we recommend to all new bidders. We’ll keep adding more. THE OTHER BIDDER MUST KNOW SOMETHING I DON’T, RIGHT? . . . . . . . . . PROBABLY NOT Don’t assume that just because the bid price on an item is going higher than you expected, the other bidder knows something you don’t. This is a very common mistake inexperienced bidders make. Joe ...Shmoe bids on an item he has not previewed. He bids low because he isn't certain about the item. Jane Doe then starts bidding against him and the price goes higher than Joe expected. "After all", thinks Joe, "who would pay that much if they didn't know the item was perfect?" Joe then assumes that Jane MUST have previewed and found the item to be good, so Joe bids more. As you were reading that, you probably saw the inherent problem with that strategy. It is very possible, even likely, that Jane has not previewed either and is thinking Joe must know something she doesn't. Thus, the two bidders may be going against each other, each thinking that the other knows something about the item that they don’t, when in fact neither do. The higher the price goes the more certain each bidder is that the other knows something and so they keep bidding. Don’t fall into this trap. If you are bidding on an item based on an assumption about the condition of that item (meaning that you have not previewed it yourself, and the item description and pictures offer no indication of the items working condition) assume it is broken or damaged. It is always better to pay too little and be pleasantly surprised, than pay too much and be unhappy. See more

Hello everyone! We have had quite a few of our bidders mention that a frequently asked question section would be helpful. We will work on integrating it into our websites, but until then, here you go! We hope you find it helpful. Why do I need a Credit Card when registering? There are two reasons we require a credit card before bidding. First is that we work very hard to keep our auctions fair and prevent anyone from having an unfair advantage. A common ploy among those ...Continue reading

As many of our regular customers at our 840 N. 10th Street Sacramento location know, we had some excitement last Saturday July 15, 2017. In the very early morning hours there was a fire at that location. Fortunately, the fire was in an area that did not affect customer invoices or currently bidding auctions, and the fire was quickly contained and extinguished. As with all fires, the fire and police departments do an immediate investigation to determine the cause of the fir...e. This resulted in the 840 N. 10th Street location having to remain closed that day. Sadly there were quite a few customers who came to pick up their items only to experience the frustration of being turned away. We sincerely regret the inconvenience that caused; it was one of those rare unfortunate experiences that was simply beyond our control. The good news is, that location opened at its regular time today, Monday July 17,2017, and has resumed full normal operations. Any customers who were unable to pay for and pick up their items on Saturday July 15, 2017 will receive a seven day extension. Simply e-mail us at [email protected]. Be sure to include your bidder name and the date you will be coming in to claim your items so we can put the appropriate notes on your account. In hindsight it would have been great to gather that info last Saturday, but we hope you will understand that we were a bit flustered that day. See more

What you need to know about RL Liquidators and BIDRL.COM before participating in any of the auctions. Perhaps the most important thing to know is that RL Liquidators and the BIDRL.COM marketplace are NOT for everyone. We are a liquidation company selling reverse logistics inventory. That means we are selling items that other retailers such as Amazon, Home Depot, Target, Orchard Supply Hardware, Costco, Staples and many others have decided that they are not willing to sell t...Continue reading
