As we navigate through these challenging times I can’t help but wonder what my Mother and Father would say if they were still alive. What would they tell their daughter and son now? What would they teach their grandchildren? Looking back now from the steps they took through integrating; the joy and hope they thought America was promising. What would they say 70 years later as men and women of color are still being murdered by the hands of hate and ignorance?! Arthur and I ha...ve never shared our background or story. We have always chosen to focus on the practice of yoga and how it has blessed our lives. Our community has gifted us with self love, an opportunity to take care of our temples both mentally and physically. The yoga we guide leads without a religious connotation, we honor everyone. As our parents, specifically our Father built BYMDR we both knew he was proud of us. Though he didn’t understand all of it, he knew we had found a space where we could flourish by helping others regardless of one's race, culture, sexuality, or gender. Walking in the Room: silence, mirrors, heat, and lights...90 minutes forces us to look deep. Each and every one of us leaves with experiences we can’t quite describe (some days better than others). It is days like this Art and I discussed how much we need the room and the community more than EVER! Don’t allow #blacklivesmatter to pass you by as a moment. Don’t just hashtag it! Ask yourself what you are willing to do and how you can help for real change. We thank you for the support and love as we celebrate our June 1, 2020 anniversary.
