Adventure Playground is one of the Marina Experience programs and has been written up as a top 10 playground in National geographic. It was voted the Best Creative Play space in Diablo magazine. YELP has rated us 4.5 out of 5. We have been written about in the Chronicle, the Boston Globe and Newsweek as one of the Top 5 play spaces in the country. To get information about our School year marine education programs, Summer marine biology, boating, green buildings, shoreline clean-ups, Bay festival, and more... see our Marina Experience web pages click here Summer hours END on FRIDAY Aug 19th, 2011 Open: Saturday and Sunday 11am-5pm FREE for parents/adults who accompany 4 children or less, Every adult must sign in on the waiver at the entrance for themselves and their children. Fees: If you are bringing more than 5 kids, regardless of how many adults you have, you are considered a group and you must make reservations. Please, No groups of any size from daycare programs, you need reservations and to pay the fee.( see below) Small individual families are invited to play without reservations. PLEASE Multiple small families who meet to play in the playground with more than 5 children are considered a group and need reservations. Scholarships are available. Weekend days are very popular and the only way to keep it safe is for us to limit the numbers, so if you come in a group without reservations, you will be asked to leave. The City of Berkeley’s Shorebird Park Nature Center is the first municipal strawbale building in the United States. It has a solar hot water radiant system to provide heating year-round in the cool marina climate, and a solar photovoltaic electrical system to power the aquariums, computers, lighting and other equipment. Our Straw Bale building is the Nature/Visitors Center and Office. Here you'll find a 50 gallon salt tank, a 30 gallon fresh water tank and displays on Marine mammals and birds.The building itself is a display on green building. The Visitors Center provides information to visitors concerning all areas of recreation and marine conservation and education. We do group tours which include watching a video on the process of building this building. We are also the office for the Adventure Playground, and we do the Shoreline cleanups year round. We need volunteers for our Bay Interpretive training program to help with our education programs during the school year. The new classroom is where we hold workshops, trainings and teach classes. It now has a180 gallon salt water aquarium which displays creatures that live in the San Francisco Bay. and fresh water ecosystem and a 180 gal. Fresh water native lake fish tank. Mid-week, the Classroom holds the school group presentations, teacher workshops, and Summer Marine Biology Classes

International clean-up is Sept 17th, 9-12 pm. Get your groups of 5 or more together for the largest volunteer effort in the world ( and we still can't make a dent) We need your help to clean up our shorelines. Lets catch the trash before it gets to the ocean to do more harm. Individuals need not preregister. Click on the link for more details.
