For many years we’ve made charitable donations on Thanksgiving Day rather than at the end of the year. It’s a perfect way for us to give thanks for all we have.There a several other benefits: The organization receives funds at a time they really need them Renewal dates become synchronized to November... Mr. Charles was one of Berkeley’s wonderful residents, who put a smile on everyone’s faces. For 30 years he held court on the corner of Oregon and Martin Luther King/Grove Street, waved to everyone driving and walking by, and shouted out HAVE A GOOD DAY in his booming voice. Carol and I were living on Carleton Street at the time and I was a nervous wreck the morning we would go to Probate Court in Oakland to find out if the court would approve the sale of our new home.... Years ago, Carol and I were having pastrami and latkes at Saul's Deli in North Berkeley's "Gourmet Ghetto" Think of it as Berkeley's food equivalent of Katz's Deli in New York's Lower East Side/Orchard Street. Emunah Hauser came over and asked "What am I doing on Christmas?" ... I figured that was a clue to find out what was happening. "Klezmer Music!" she said (though I didn't find out she was the violinist in the group till I saw her playing). Thought you'd want to know delightful and joyful it was!
