New book by Professor Emeritus Adam Adamthwaite: Britain, France and Europe,1945-1975 : The Elusive Alliance challenges standard narratives of postwar Europe. The sidelining of Britain and France in the Cold War era, argues Adamthwaite, was preventable. A Franco-British Europe came within a whisker of realization. A marriage powering the Community could have repositioned Western Europe as partner, not client of the United States. https://history.berkeley.edu//emeritus-tony-adamthwaite-ta

Last week graduate students of the History Department circulated a powerful Statement of Support for Black Lives. The History Department stands with this message. "As historians, we are aware of the transformative power of silence as much as action. We add our voices to those already disrupting this silence, and assert our commitment to resisting white supremacy and other systems of oppression that have long been part of this country’s history and its actions around the world...." History Graduate students have also organized a fundraiser for Peoples Breakfast Oakland: https://www.gofundme.com/f/berkeley-history-funds-for-oakla https://history.berkeley.edu/statement-support-black-lives-
