How does that TracTive X-Treme shock work? Here's a good illustration. Note some of the oil bypassing the shim stack through the hole in the piston rod. This is how the rebound damping adjuster works by allowing more oil or less oil to bypass the shim stack depending on your adjuster setting. Also note the additional compression valving added towards the end of stroke by the smaller piston to create a slow motion event instead of a big bottom out as it enters the PDS anti-bot...toming cup in the top of the cylinder. You'll also notice the oil in the shock cylinder being displaced by the piston road ending up in the reservoir as it selects a compression adjuster path based on the velocity of the oil, and the floating piston moving against the presurized nitrogen in the reservoir.
