Let’s be patient as this past year has been challenging for many of us. Including the IRS. The Internal Revenue Service is holding 29 million tax returns for manual processing, contributing to more refund delays than are typical in a normal filing season due to sweeping tax code changes, limited resources, outdated IT systems and a backlog of unprocessed 2019 paper tax returns, according to Erin Collins, the National Taxpayer Advocate. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/7344076002

Please be careful. If you are ever in doubt, please reach out to us first. Every year, the IRS compiles a list of common tax scams (the "dirty dozen") that taxpayers may encounter during the year. This year, the "dirty dozen" list focuses on scams that target individual taxpayers, with special emphasis on aggressive and evolving schemes related to COVID-19 tax relief, including the Economic Impact Payments (EIPs).
We will never forget.
The payroll tax deferral takes effect today, September 1st. What it really means for your paycheck... If you are able to opt out of the payroll tax deferral, we advise you to do so. This program is only a deferral! The payroll taxes that will not be deducted from your paycheck from Sept through December 2020, will need to be paid before April 2021. If you make the decision to not opt out and have the taxes deferred, we ask that you please plan accordingly. ... https://www.cnbc.com//the-payroll-tax-holiday-takes-effect

Treasury Announces Tax Payment Deferral Available Today, during the daily White House briefing on the coronavirus, the Secretary of the Treasury Mnuchin announc...ed that IRS payments can be deferred for 90 days interest and penalty free. He stressed that tax returns still be filed timely, especially if a refund is expected. File electronically and process through direct deposit for the most efficient way to receive the refund. Every once in a while I get clients that will ask me why their friend got such a big refund and they don't. Their friend will recommend for them to go to their "tax" person....sometimes things are just too good to be true! Please advise your friends that although the idea of getting a "big" refund sounds great, at the end of the day, if they don't legitimately deserve that refund, the IRS will eventually come knocking at their door wanting their money back. https://www.latimes.com//glendale-tax-preparer-arrested-on
