*************NEWS RELEASE************* On Tuesday, November 20th, a Bear Valley resident reported to BVPD that a credit card they expected by mail and never received was used at several retail outlets in the Los Angeles area including Bloomingdale’s, Ikea, and Target. Officers began an investigation. The following day, Wednesday, November 21st, another Bear Valley resident made a similar report. During the Bloomingdale’s incident, the suspect purchased several expensive wrist... watches, among other items. Bear Valley PD officers obtained surveillance video from retailers and worked throughout the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in identifying the suspect involved. With leads obtained through community interaction, social media sites, and other investigative tools available to them, officers identified the suspect in the video as Robert Nicholas Kullrich, 38, of Golden Hills (Tehachapi, Ca.) On Sunday, November 25th, BVPD officers sought and obtained a search warrant for Kullrich’s residence in the 22000 block of Bogie Street in Golden Hills. During their search, officers located numerous items linking Kullrich to multiple mail thefts in the Bear Valley area including stolen credit cards and mail. Officers also located fraudulent social security cards, fraudulent driver’s licenses, and electronic devices for manufacturing these items. They located items purchased from the Bloomindale’s incident, and also gift cards purchased from the retailer. Kullrich is also suspected in an August 2018 Bear Valley mail theft where items were purchased using a stolen credit card from a local Home Depot. Kullrich was arrested on the following charges: Grand theft Mail theft Fraudulent use of personal info (identity theft) Check forgery Receiving stolen property Possession of a controlled substance Possession of drug paraphernalia Possession of burglary tools Possession of a hypodermic needle Alter/forge/falsify driver’s license or identification (Other charges not listed) Kullrich was booked into the Kern County Jail. His bail is set at $390,000, and will likely make his first court appointment later this week. This case will require substantial follow up to determine if subsequent crimes were committed, and to identify additional potential victims. BVPD officers have already determined the suspect was able to gain passage into Bear Valley through sponsored resident passes. The investigation into this and other leads is ongoing. Chief Tim Melanson, BVPD
