Bear Valley CSD 29.10.2021

Have you wondered why the windward side of mountains or large hills receives so much more snow than surrounding areas? This is due to upslope snow. When moist wind blows against the side of mountains/hills, the air is forced to rise (called orographic lift). As the air rises and cools, water vapor condenses, resulting in clouds and precipitation over the windward region. Conversely, the leeward side often receives less snow due to descending air.

Yellow Starthistle season has begun! You may see our staff out spraying road sides and drainage easements. They are taking advantage of the weather to spot-treat Yellow Starthistle with a pre-emergent herbicide called Milestone. It is best practice to spray before a rainfall so that the herbicide is washed into the soil where it can do its work. For more information on the control of this toxic plant, see here: https://www.bvcsd.com//yellow-starthistle-identification-a

You wouldn’t think a little bit of rain could make the roads slippery, but after a long dry stretch, it can happen. This is because oil and debris accumulate on the road during the dry period. Once the rain starts falling, roads become slick. Slow down in these situations. This is one of those hazards that can sneak up on you!

From SCE: Due to improved fire weather conditions, your area has been removed from Public Safety Power Shutoff consideration. No electric service will be proactively turned off at this time.

Bear Valley CSD 10.10.2020

Due to current weather conditions, SCE may need to shut off power (a Public Safety Power Shutoff or PSPS) in the next 1 to 4 hours to reduce the risk of wildfire ignition though the PSPS may occur earlier or later depending on actual weather conditions. Areas that may be impacted include: Circuit: GNATCATCHER, CONDOR This Imminent De-Energization warning expires after four hours. If one or more circuits listed here are de-energized by SCE due to PSPS, a De-Energized notification confirming date and time of the PSPS event will be sent. However, if this imminent notice expires without de-energization, the listed circuit(s) remain on SCE’s monitor list and subject to PSPS.

Bear Valley CSD 22.09.2020

SCE has indicated that both the Gnatcatcher and Condor circuits within Bear Valley Springs are being considered for a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) on Monday, October 26th between noon and 3pm. For more info visit: https://sce.com/PSPS

Dense fog can quickly and unexpectedly reduce visibility to a quarter mile or less. If you find yourself on the road during a dense fog event, the small decisions you choose to make could end up saving your life. Small decisions like slowing down, not using cruise control, and delaying travel until conditions improve can make a big impact...or save you from one. weather.gov/safety/fog
