Great info on 2017 housing market predictions... From where I'm standing, I have to say so far I agree. A lot of people are concerned with rising rates and although we are seeing it bounce back and forth in the low 4's for 30 year fixed rates, soon to be homeowners do have other options such as a 5/1 or 7/1 arm. As a mortgage broker and real estate broker I've helped many clients understand exactly how a short term fixed loan sometimes just works for what they need it for. ... Move up buyers for one simply don't plan to stay very long in their homes as their goals of expanding their family can call for a 2-5 year plan before upgrading. It's scenarios like these which ask the question, do I tie myself down with a 30 yr loan at roughly 4.25% or should I go with a 5/1 at possibly 3.375%. The choice is yours but sometimes for the savvy borrower that monthly savings over a 36-60 months might just make sense. Just some insight as to what some of my clients like to ask me when they want to know all their options. Expect to see credit availability improve as affordability lessens. On another note, check out the chart on Forbes link below. It shows which housing markets are most vulnerable to rising interest rates and at what point does it make more sense to rent then buy..
