Pet Proof your house from any possible poisonous substances, foods, or plants that may hurt your cat or dog. Here are a few examples below!
Why can't dogs eat chocolate? Why is chocolate poisonous to dogs? It all comes down to two things: theobromine and caffeine. If your dog ingested chocolate of any kind you should contact your veterinarian and if possible tell them what type of chocolate, how much and when your dog ingested the chocolate. How can you prevent chocolate toxicity? Keep your chocolate high up and far away from wandering noses. Put it in a cupboard that is high off the floor in a container with a tight lid. If your dog eats chocolate call your veterinarian or the Pet Poison Helpline right away!
One of the lesser known pet toxicities is called Xylitol. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has warned dog owners that xylitol, which isna sweetener used in sugarless gum, mints, toothpaste, and even in baked goods....is toxic to their pets. In humans, xylitol does not trigger the release of insulin by the pancreas,, and blood sugar is not affected....but in dogs it causes a release of insulin and their blood sugar can become dangerously low. If you suspect your dog has ingested any food products that may contain xylitol, please call us or the Pet Poison Helpline right away!
We can't believe it's already MARCH! Did you know that March is Poison Prevention Month? We always caution against leaving these products below where your pet can get into them. If that ever happens, please call us, your local vet, or the Poison Control hotline right away.

Older cats tend to defecate and urinate in other places, different from the litter box. This behavior may point to a medical condition such as lower urinary tract infection.
Dogs love the beach, but playing games of fetch, chasing waves, and swimming can all lead to a thirsty dog who consumes salt water. In most cases, a few mouthfuls of salt water may only cause diarrhea. Consuming large amounts of salt water, however, can be fatal.
Senior cats, especially neutered felines are prone to obesity. Neutering alone does not cause obesity but is a contributor factor. Older cats and neutered cats eat more and are less active and this results in weight gain.

Heartworm is a potentially deadly parasite that is transmitted only by mosquitos, which pick up larval heartworms, called microfilaria, circulating in the bloodstream of infected animals. This is why it's important to bring your dog in for tests!
