We have our first patients at the UC Davis veterinary hospital from the LNU Lightning complex fires. Ava, an 11-year-old draft horse was brought in from the Qua...il Canyon area. She was the sole survivor of six horses owned by a young woman who is also an RN who lost her home, truck, trailer, everything. Puzzler is a Welsh pony who belongs to a friend and was brought in along with Ava. The alpaca has been dubbed Canelo by the large animal veterinary team. He was brought in by good samaritans who were flagged down by law enforcement who told them to take the alpaca to UC Davis. So they loaded him in their truck and brought him to the hospital. Our compassionate teams of clinicians, vet techs and students are on standby to assist other animals that are brought in. If you want to help support the medical care of these survivors, you can donate to the Catastrophic Need Fund at give.ucdavis.edu/go/vcnf. Please stay safe out there. See more
