It is with great sadness that the Barstow College Foundation has had to cancel our annual BBQ. The Foundation BBQ has been a long standing community event held every September, allowing our board members the opportunity to interact with our donors, the community, and the college faculty and staff, as well as raise scholarship funds for the students at BCC. However, with donors like Paul Wilkey-State Farm Agent, State Farm Agent, we are able to continue to raise funds for our general scholarships. Recently Barstow Community College was selected to participate in the first cohort of colleges to pilot the CCC Homeless and Housing Insecurity program. Homele...ssness and housing insecurity among college students is a growing issue. According to the #RealCollege Survey, BCC students participated in during the Spring 2019 semester, 19% of our students had been homeless within the last year and 68% considered themselves housing insecure. Due to the pandemic, that percentage is expected to grow and Barstow Community College is working with community partners to provide assistance. Currently the program is providing rehousing services with rental subsidies, connecting students with a community case manager to assist in identifying safety net resources and one time emergency grants to secure housing or prevent imminent loss of housing.
