Darryl and Dennis attempting a bit of soft shoe. We never really did get it together. We'll keep our day jobs. Good picture though.

This will be my last post regarding the Barrio Logan Urban Farm. The opportunity to get behind an inner city property and convert that property into such a special place with beautiful lush gardens was an incredibly rewarding experience. Of course meeting all the wonderful people who share a commitment or at least a desire to learn more about this type of cultivation made the project worthwhile. As we close out the project I would like to point out that if you are a comm...ercial property owner that might consider availing your property to an urban farm you should certainly consider doing so. As you can see by the posts and albums within the property was improved, the community benefited, jobs were provided, food was grown and when the time comes that you want to redevelop the property these gardens can be taken down in a matter of weeks. Our particular take down took 8 days. With that I would like to invite everyone over to the World Beat Center in Balboa Park. A large portion of our equipment is going to be setup at their facility as a way to further promote inner city gardening using aquaculture as the nutrient engine. It'll take 2-3 months to be fully up and running but please be patient. I look forward to seeing all of our Barrio Logan friends at the new gardens. They are going to rock!

We harvested the remaining lettuce today and donated it all to Father Joe's Village. While it pains me to think we're at the end of the run at this location it's giving back to the community, to those in need that make urban farming so rewarding. Thank you for letting us share the labors of our love.

We will be shutting down our operation and returning it to it's original and dare I say improved condition within the next 10 days. But in doing so I am reminded as to how much got done in such a short period of time. We officially took over the property on March 1, 2015 and while there is more I would have liked to have done with the development of the site the reality is that there were promises made to help us support this project that when it came down to it those promi...ses were not kept. Nonetheless even with limited resources the infrastructure and the gardens came together beautifully and in remarkably short order. I'm really proud to say we did something for the community that I was passionate about with the underlying message of creating urban farms for the local community and using sustainable cultivation practices being central to that theme. I don't have a single regret for having developed the project to the extent that we did and in fact would consider doing it again if the support was truly genuine. I would like to thank Dale Tron Haj for his passionate support and to all those who who donated their time as interns or artists to make this such a special place. I can't tell you how much your being there was appreciated by myself and all those who visited The Farm. And while The Farm may fade from memory, the work you left behind will long remain an example of what can be accomplished when gardeners, artists and manufacturers all come together to make a difference in their community. I feel honored and blessed to have worked with such a fine group of people in turning what was once just a vision into that reality. Thank you one and all.
