The Balboa Angling Club is Hiring! Club Administrative Assistant Position Description:... The Balboa Angling Club is looking for a self-starting, organized and efficient individual to fulfil its Club Administrative Assistant position. Along with assisting with the Board of Directors with the planning and execution of various scheduled events, tournaments and meetings throughout the calendar year, the Club Administrative Assistant posts at the Clubhouse on the Balboa Peninsula to assist with various member and facility needs. As the main liaison between the Club, its members and the Public, we are looking for passionate, positive, articulate, kempt individual to promote the Balboa Angling Club’s values and commitment to sport fishing and conservation. The Balboa Angling Club is looking for an individual with the following skills and qualitied: - Time management and punctuality - Organized and self-motivated - Articulate in both written and spoken English - Fluent in Microsoft Office suite - Fluent with Quickbooks - Web savvy with popular Social Media platforms - Physically able to lift objects under 30lbs, able to lift objects up to standard shelf heights - Able to multi-task Duties include, but are not limited to: - Assisting the Board of Directors with planning and executing events - Answering phone and email, directing inquiries to the correct respondent - Maintain Club records, act as weighmaster for member’s fish catches - Greet and assist visitors to the Clubhouse, promote Club membership - Create and distribute monthly Club newsletter - Assist Treasurer with Quickbooks to manage daily financial transactions - Keep Club’s digitized records up to date and secure - Keep Club tidy and secure, purchase supplies and groceries - Post content on Social Media on behalf of Club - Assist Board of Directors at monthly meeting This position is W-F, with some weekends, 12-5pm from November to June, and M-F 12-5pm from June to November. Some overtime is needed throughout the year, as well as periodic evening events to work. Hourly range is $18 20 per hour, with annual wage review and incentivizing. MUST WATCH! As operators of the White Seabass pens in Newport Harbor, the group in the video is the sister group that raises California Halibut for the same effort as our PAC FISH. This segment tells all about the Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute and their hatchery program, a truly remarkable organization. Later this month, we will receive our White Seabass fry to raise for the next number of months for a release. Please share this link to help spread awareness or contact us if you are interested in volunteering or donating to this effort. 100% of all donations go to the Grow Pen supplies and its maintenance and upkeep. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing the young fish released in the bays to venture out, breed and help the California coastal habitat!

Good news, we plan on having our Tuna Seminar with Jimmy Decker this Wednesday, July 22nd @ 5:30 at the Clubhouse patio. We will keep the attendance at 25 people, outside. When you need a certified scale, we have the only one around!!! Thanks for your membership and support @bobhoose and congratulations!! ________________________________________ #repost - Last weekend we took PROSPECTOR south on a mission to land the coveted Tuna Club blue button - a 100 lb plus local tuna caught on ...24 thread linen line. Linen line was first used by members to establish button awards for the Tuna Club in 1898. George Garrett acquired a spool of 24 thread linen that was passed down from his grandfather, his dad, his uncle, then to us and ready for battle. Linen line is a serious challenge- it’s 60’s years plus old line and breaks unexpectedly or starts to unravel while on a fish. Furthermore, TC rules are no rod holders, no rail, and only one crew member to assist in gaffing. With George at the helm - we got Jack Rainwater tight on 24 thread linen and he managed to land a #122 in twenty minutes for his blue button. Stoked for Jack! I am up next as angler and we get another bite on 24 thread and this bluefin kicks my ass for two hours! Beyond stoked when my #117 is in the cockpit! Earlier that morning Grant Garrett gives us a hat trick with a #141 on 80 lb tackle. Here is BAC Member Steve Lee, fishing on RastaFish, with the tournament winning Yellowtail @ 21.9 lbs caught on 30#. Congratulations!!! The awards banquet and BBQ is tonight at the club, at 5:30PM. Dear Members, We are monitoring the effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and to help prevent the spread, we will be working remotely, at times away from the club, as we remain closed until further notice. Please see the fish weighing policy below, we are asking you to bear with us during the adjustments until the club can operate as before.... We are continuing to prepare for the coming year keeping up with fundraising, newsletter, yearbook, educational BBQ’s and tournaments for the fishing season. Tight lines! Sincerely, David DuBois Club President Re: Protocol for weighing fish at Balboa Angling Club (BAC) Following Center for Disease Control (CDC) directions during coronavirus disruption we are implementing the following procedure to keep the scales open at this time. 1. Important for Angler to call in to the club prior to arrival (949) 673-6316 -will allow us some time to prepare scale. After hours or during closed periods there will be phone contact numbers available on door (Daniel or Alison.) 2. After docking unload fish to dock stay on the dock with fish and we will lower scale from upper deck to you. 3. Will verify the list of angling rules being in compliance, rod, line, leader, etc. 4. Will weigh fish, provide certification of fish then pass down photo board in pertinent information of catch for photo. 5. Bench top scale / smaller fish Place small fish to be weighed in a bucket and leave at top of the ramp on deck. The Weight master will move fish to scale for weighing and return fish to the bucket. 6. Off you go!
