The picture on the left is an example of a worst case scenario due to the lack of proper lubrication and most likely years since this Midwest Shorty 2 speed has been serviced. A yearly tune up and cleaning is a good idea and will save time and money. As shown in the parts breakdown picture there are lots of moving parts and lubrication is a must. The Dentists Choice can provide your practice with Dental grade lubricants, automatic lube machines, bulk lubricants as well as new and used handpieces. Our specialty is handpiece repair, high speed, slow speeds, surgical and electric, we support all makes and models!! Take care of your essential tools and they will give years of reliable service. A little preventative maintenance goes a long way.
Last month was a busy month with organizing and attending the training functions for our Bakersfield and Fresno Madera Dental Society vendor tables. Thank you to all the folks that visited our table, it was a great experience and we appreciate your questions and feedback.
10 Tips to Extend the Life of Any Dental Handpiece Proper lubrication is essential to getting the most life and the best possible performance from any dental handpiece. Here are a few pointers on choosing a handpiece lubricant that can help you minimize downtime, reduce the frequency of repairs and avoid unnecessary costs while extending your tool’s lifespan.... Lubricate the Handpiece Chuck Separately The handpiece chuck generally requires separate care and a direct dose of lubricant. Lubricate Before Sterilization A high-quality handpiece lubricant like The Dentist’s Choice Euro-Lube will not break down in autoclaving temperature or otherwise be affected by the sterilization process. Lubrication prior to autoclaving has also been shown to increase the longevity of air-turbine handpiece bearings. Avoid Over lubricating Low-Speed Handpieces Applying too much lubricant to a low-speed motor can saturate it and cause it to become sluggish. Use a Product That Cleans And Lubricants At Once This saves you valuable time when it comes to preparing your handpiece for sterilization. Euro-Lube is designed to remove dirt and stains from handpiece surfaces while it lubricates. Don’t Lubricate ‘Lube-Free’ Turbine Bearings Certain Kavo and Star Dental handpiece turbines are not designed for direct lubrication. Use a Food-Grade Handpiece Lubricant We know that a handpiece can discharge lubricant in the direction of the bur for some 40 minutes after lubrication. Using a food-grade synthetic lubricant will ensure that this will not affect your patients. Never Use Any Non-Dental Lubricant For Your Handpiece Safety comes first! Non-dental lubricants may not be safe for your patients or good for your handpiece. Euro-Lube was developed in conjunction with Aerospace Lubricants Inc. specifically for dental handpieces. Always Follow the Handpiece Manufacturer’s Instructions Maintenance standards can vary between different manufacturers, and in different models from the same manufacturer. Use The Adapter That Corresponds Your Coupling System This will ensure that you deliver the right amount of lubricant to the deepest recesses of your handpiece. Our Euro- Lube comes in 500ml aerosol cans with nozzles available for most handpieces, including contras, straights, heads and low-speed motors. Don’t Skimp on the Lubricant! Your handpiece can’t function properly without proper lubrication! If cost is a concern, there are affordable handpiece lubricants on the market. Euro-Lube is affordably priced, with cost savings of 20-30% over other top lubricant brands. Have any questions about our handpiece lubricants? Get in touch with us and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can!

Frequently Asked Questions What causes turbine failure? The Dentist’s Choice repair company and dental office share equal responsibilities in making sure these factors are either followed through and controlled 100% to ensure the best performance of the handpiece. ... What causes bearing failure? A: Bearings are the first to wear out in a turbine. Buildup of debris, excessive air pressure, excessive temperatures during autoclaving, side load stress, bent burs are all main causes for bearings to fail or wear faster. How fast can I get my handpiece back? A: It will be repaired in 24 to 48 hours (this does not include shipping time). * Estimates and special part orders will extend return time. Do you guarantee your repair work? A: We warranty all high-speed repairs for 4-8 months. B: We warranty all low-speed motors and attachments for 6 months. What form of payment do you accept? A: We bill in a net 30 basis and we accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and check payments. Do you charge for estimates? A: No. Our estimates are free of charge. How do I send my handpieces to you? A: Give us a call and we will fax over a USPS shipping label to you and print out the work order and mail label, fill out the work order, and use the Free USPS Mailing label, attach to your bubble mailer or small box. A: A bent or warped bur, under sized bur .0626 or oversized bur .0630, deteriorated auto or manual chuck, bearings and O-rings, will cause unbalance of the turbine leading to vibration and shaking. How long should the turbine last? A: A turbine should last anywhere from 3 to 12 months. Constant usage will shorten turbine life but consistent maintenance will ensure a longer lasting turbine. How often should I lube my handpiece? A: You should lube your handpiece before and after autoclaving. . Please reference the power point presentation on Handpiece Maintenance. What is an overhauled turbine? A: An overhauled turbine involves the reusing of the current chuck and new components such as bearings and O-rings. Ben 661-535-8119
