Day 5 of 31 Days of Canyonlands! These steps take you down into Hollywood Canyon, one of four canyons along our City Heights Canyons Loop Trail. This small y...et sweet canyon is full of San Diego native plants like wooly yerba santa (Eriodictyon tomentosum), laurel sumac (Malosma laurina), black sage (Salvia mellifera), and many more! It is also right next to Hollywood Park, which is a great place for a picnic. Be sure to check it out next time you're in the neighborhood. #sdhikers #nature #sandiego #hikesd #sdhikes #california #socal #sandiegoliving #sd #optoutside #exploresandiego #exploremore See more
Fabulous new paintings by Gloria Muriel, our "Glow"!
Day 4 of 31 Days of Canyonlands! Olivia Canyon, once called 47th Street Canyon, is named after a local longtime environmental steward of the City Heights commu...nity. Olivia Marlow moved to San Diego in 1940 with her husband Raymond and they built their house near the canyon on 47th Street in 1948. Olivia loved nature and painted pictures inspired by her local canyon. She even prevented the construction of road that would have run through the bottom of what is now Olivia Canyon. #31daysofcanyonlands #sd #sdhikers #hikesd #optoutside #nature #exploremore #sdcounty #exploresd #getoutsidesd
Keep an eye out for Jimmy Twill's car which was stolen.
NBC 7 San Diego chopper was flying over our County Administration Center on November 20, 2020 when it was lit up for #TransDayofRemembrance
Today Matt Y. Armstrong visited the burn site of the November 15 fire at Home Ave. and 805 that I posted that same day. Matt found some live embers in the build-up of bark under a Pepper tree so he called 911. SDFR came out right away and thoroughly doused the embers.
Last Thursday's cleanup of the area around the Manzanita Gathering Place was well attended by neighborhood volunteers. Thanks to I Love A Clean San Diego and San Diego Canyonlands for organizing.
See everyone soon!
This part of City Heights could use our help! Come on over and lend a hand. Or find some hot spots in our neighborhood that you would like to see cleaned up!
Hey, Neighbors, I will be on Winona Street above Auburn Creek for next Saturday's Coastal Cleanup Day. However, @Matt Armstrong will be in the Home Ave./Fairmount area where there is always lots of litter to pick up. Also Redwood St. just opposite Poplar St. is a needy spot so I hope you will fid your spot and make our community cleaner and safer, too!
Meet the Team at San Diego Canyonlands and Hear Why They Participate in #CoastalCleanupDay! This week, we are sharing video messages from habitat advocacy gr...oups in San Diego County. They, like I Love A Clean San Diego, support a healthy environment and are instrumental in supporting the volunteer efforts during Coastal Cleanup Day. For #CCD2020, we might not be able to be with you in person, but remember you can still #protectthecoast from your front door!
I Love A Clean San Diego’s virtual Coastal Cleanup Day is Saturday, September 26, any time of day, use you own bags, clean up a street near your home and use your own trash containers. Register at Cleanupday.org so I Love A Clean San Diego can track the results. This is an international event. Last year 789,138 residents of this beautiful planet worked to clean up Mother Earth. 71,756 volunteered in California and 6,808 volunteered in San Diego County. Studies show that 80%... of all ocean trash comes from the inland areas. In San Diego, the street trash washes into our beautiful canyons and storm drains and out to sea. Help save our planet. Grab a bag and go out your door and pick up some trash! Work as an individual or with your family group. Have your mask handy in case you have a close encounter with a non-family individual. Wear a glove on you trash pickup hand. Hope to see you out there!
Hey, neighbors, you can sign up to participate in the City Heights Dia de los Muertos. Perhaps this is a way for your family to participate in Halloween without the kiddos taking to the streets and going house to house. for treats.
Dia de los Muertos - translation: Day of the Dead As Halloween is cancelled this year due to COVID-19, we could instead adopt the Mexican tradition of creating ...a tableau of photos, flowers, and memorabilia to honor family or fallen heroes. See photo of example. My City Heights community holds an annual event which will be virtual this year. Flyer attached. Transforming City Heights
